Welcome back to MAFIA II! In part four, mixed loyalties come into play again as old friends get caught in the crossfire, and Vito's past catches up to him.
In this episode, somehow the fake mustaches are not the worst part of Joe's plan, and could there be a worse song on the radio at a time like this? More seriously, we talk about why Joe is so effected but a certain death, whether or not he's become a liability, and why do they boys risk alienating both Clemente AND Falcone? Don't forget to watch or play along - gameplay is posted weekly on our YouTube channel! We'll continue to play MAFIA II and analyze it in our podcast - join us in the coming weeks as we follow Vito's path through the Mafia.

00:00:00 --> 00:00:02 In this episode, we go undercover as Mario and
00:00:02 --> 00:00:06 Luigi. We experience perhaps the worst time for
00:00:06 --> 00:00:09 tequila to play on the radio. And my feet are
00:00:09 --> 00:00:13 getting cold. Thank you for coming back from
00:00:13 --> 00:00:16 our replay reviews. My name is Leah. And my name
00:00:16 --> 00:00:18 is Kathy. We are two friends who are here to
00:00:18 --> 00:00:20 replay, review, and analyze your favorite video
00:00:20 --> 00:00:23 games. And since Kathy has never seen the games
00:00:23 --> 00:00:25 before, it helps me view them through her fresh
00:00:25 --> 00:00:27 eyes. almost like I'm discovering them again
00:00:27 --> 00:00:29 for the first time. We hope it will be a similar
00:00:29 --> 00:00:39 experience for you. Scene 1. To summarize it,
00:00:39 --> 00:00:42 Vito and Joe are tasked with an act of mafia
00:00:42 --> 00:00:44 warfare, but when things don't go exactly as
00:00:44 --> 00:00:47 planned, the collateral damage leaves Joe emotional.
00:00:48 --> 00:00:52 So we're on Chapter 10, Room Service. Villa Scaletta,
00:00:52 --> 00:00:56 June 15th, 1951. It's been about a month since
00:00:56 --> 00:00:59 they joined the family. Vito's in his new home,
00:00:59 --> 00:01:02 so things are going well. And he's woken up by
00:01:02 --> 00:01:05 a phone call from Eddie. He can't tell Vito what's
00:01:05 --> 00:01:07 going on over the phone, but tells him to get
00:01:07 --> 00:01:11 over to Joe's. Vito arrives to see two men outside
00:01:11 --> 00:01:13 Joe's door. One is Marty, who we met. And while
00:01:13 --> 00:01:16 chatting with him, Vito is called in by Joe.
00:01:16 --> 00:01:19 They're waiting for you. They is Falcone, Eddie,
00:01:19 --> 00:01:23 and Joe. Falcone is happy with Vito for handling
00:01:23 --> 00:01:27 Luca. and giving them proof that Clemente attacked
00:01:27 --> 00:01:31 them. He says that this means war, and they're
00:01:31 --> 00:01:33 planning to get rid of him and his top guys at
00:01:33 --> 00:01:35 a meeting that they're holding at the Empire
00:01:35 --> 00:01:39 Arms Hotel. What Joe does is bring a freaking
00:01:39 --> 00:01:43 bomb and slam it onto the table. Who does that?
00:01:44 --> 00:01:47 Nobody's sane. His bright idea is to plant this
00:01:47 --> 00:01:50 bomb in the meeting room. Turns out Marty is
00:01:50 --> 00:01:52 their getaway driver. Vito's not too happy about
00:01:52 --> 00:01:56 it. Marty is not allowed in the room to partake
00:01:56 --> 00:02:00 in this conversation about strategy, yet immediately
00:02:00 --> 00:02:03 Joe's like, yeah, he's not part of the family,
00:02:03 --> 00:02:05 but we still need him to do the family's work.
00:02:05 --> 00:02:09 And I just, that doesn't sit well with me. And
00:02:09 --> 00:02:11 then there's a whole other side of the conversation
00:02:11 --> 00:02:15 about, hey, he might be too young to be doing
00:02:15 --> 00:02:18 this stuff. And Joe's like, no, he's not. How
00:02:18 --> 00:02:21 young were you when you did this? Wasn't Joe
00:02:21 --> 00:02:23 the one who brought Vito into doing all these
00:02:23 --> 00:02:26 crimes and now Joe's doing the same thing to
00:02:26 --> 00:02:29 Marty? It's the same and it's different because
00:02:29 --> 00:02:33 I think they met in school, Joe and Vito, so
00:02:33 --> 00:02:36 he's not that much older than Vito. If he is
00:02:36 --> 00:02:38 older, I think he looks older, but apparently
00:02:38 --> 00:02:40 he's not. So I think that's a little different.
00:02:40 --> 00:02:42 That's like two young people doing stupid things
00:02:42 --> 00:02:45 together, but this is like an older person who
00:02:45 --> 00:02:49 knows the life, bringing a younger person into
00:02:49 --> 00:02:54 it. I don't understand their dynamics. But at
00:02:54 --> 00:02:56 the hotel, they get into disguise, which includes
00:02:56 --> 00:03:00 cleaning uniforms and fake mustaches. They leave
00:03:00 --> 00:03:03 Marty in the car and then clean their way up
00:03:03 --> 00:03:06 to the 18th floor. While doing so, they see Henry
00:03:06 --> 00:03:08 walk by and say, I hope you don't come back before
00:03:08 --> 00:03:11 we do our thing. Reactions? We haven't seen Henry
00:03:11 --> 00:03:16 in a hot minute. Yeah. I'm curious what his relationship
00:03:16 --> 00:03:19 is with... all three of them at this point you
00:03:19 --> 00:03:23 know he's kind of two -timing both families yet
00:03:23 --> 00:03:26 they're okay with not ratting him out or going
00:03:26 --> 00:03:29 to him for help when they know he could have
00:03:29 --> 00:03:33 been an in i'm confused with that relationship
00:03:33 --> 00:03:36 yes and it seems like there's a lot of crossover
00:03:36 --> 00:03:39 between the families in this city that's something
00:03:39 --> 00:03:43 we keep seeing well hopefully he doesn't come
00:03:43 --> 00:03:45 back before the bomb goes off and speaking of
00:03:46 --> 00:03:47 They plant it under the conference room table
00:03:47 --> 00:03:51 and then make their way to the roof. Joe complains
00:03:51 --> 00:03:56 after two sets of stares. Joe. Vito keeps saying
00:03:56 --> 00:03:58 that, oh, Joe, like, when are you this smart?
00:03:59 --> 00:04:03 And it's just a 180 change. I mean, it's not
00:04:03 --> 00:04:06 like he was dumb before, but all of a sudden
00:04:06 --> 00:04:10 he's smart and Vito's praising him. It seems
00:04:10 --> 00:04:13 like he just wasn't thinking before. And now
00:04:13 --> 00:04:15 he's thinking. So I don't necessarily know if
00:04:15 --> 00:04:18 Vito's saying smart is the correct phrase, but
00:04:18 --> 00:04:23 he's at least using the brain he has. When they're
00:04:23 --> 00:04:26 at the top of the stairs trying to enter the
00:04:26 --> 00:04:29 roof, there's two guys, and Vito wants to just
00:04:29 --> 00:04:33 shoot them. Since when was he the hothead? And
00:04:33 --> 00:04:35 then Joe kind of pushes his hand away, and he
00:04:35 --> 00:04:39 even... at one point said that oh there's Clemente
00:04:39 --> 00:04:41 let's just shoot him and it'll be done let's
00:04:41 --> 00:04:44 not do the whole bomb idea but yeah Joe's like
00:04:44 --> 00:04:45 no no you're gonna get shot and we're both gonna
00:04:45 --> 00:04:48 die why are they all of a sudden so out of character
00:04:48 --> 00:04:50 between the two of them it seems like they switched
00:04:50 --> 00:04:54 it almost makes me think that Joe needs this
00:04:54 --> 00:04:56 to go really well for some reason that we don't
00:04:56 --> 00:04:59 know about because they're already in the family
00:04:59 --> 00:05:02 so I don't know what he'd be benefiting from
00:05:02 --> 00:05:06 this other than money I do get A sense that Joe
00:05:06 --> 00:05:09 feels threatened by Vito. I don't know what exactly
00:05:09 --> 00:05:12 it is, and there's not enough evidence of it,
00:05:12 --> 00:05:16 but just the way Joe is coming off right now,
00:05:16 --> 00:05:20 I feel like he's threatened or he wants to demonstrate
00:05:20 --> 00:05:24 that he's just as good as Vito. They get in a
00:05:24 --> 00:05:27 shootout on the roof, and after that, they take
00:05:27 --> 00:05:29 the window washing platform down, I guess to
00:05:29 --> 00:05:32 plant a detonator? Vito is a bit nervous about
00:05:32 --> 00:05:34 being too close to the bomb, but Joe assures
00:05:34 --> 00:05:38 him. They'll be fine. He says, use the squeegee
00:05:38 --> 00:05:40 to stay in character. Which is a line I don't
00:05:40 --> 00:05:45 think I've ever heard before. Oh, Kathy. What
00:05:45 --> 00:05:49 happens next? Yeah. I don't even know how to
00:05:49 --> 00:05:52 describe it. Can we make sure we have that scene
00:05:52 --> 00:05:55 included in this? Because we need to see how
00:05:55 --> 00:06:00 stupid everything just looks and is. And, I don't
00:06:00 --> 00:06:03 know, they're just ragdolling around on a platform
00:06:03 --> 00:06:06 in midair. I don't know what happened. Did he
00:06:06 --> 00:06:08 press the detonator too quick? I don't know.
00:06:08 --> 00:06:10 They weren't far enough away. Then they lower
00:06:10 --> 00:06:14 back down to see the aftermath and Clemente stumbles
00:06:14 --> 00:06:17 out of the bathroom. Lucky guy. So Vito and Joe
00:06:17 --> 00:06:20 give chase. I feel like a bomb is the worst way
00:06:20 --> 00:06:23 to guarantee someone's dead because you don't
00:06:23 --> 00:06:25 know where that guy is relative to the bomb when
00:06:25 --> 00:06:31 it goes off. Poison. Yeah. Poison or like rooftop
00:06:31 --> 00:06:35 a sniper. There's so many other options. All
00:06:35 --> 00:06:37 right, so they do manage to shoot their way back
00:06:37 --> 00:06:40 to Marty, but he's dead. And then they continue
00:06:40 --> 00:06:42 to chase Clemente by car, and it's a miracle
00:06:42 --> 00:06:46 I pulled off this driving section. So long for
00:06:46 --> 00:06:51 Marty. Yeah. I wasn't expecting him to die so
00:06:51 --> 00:06:57 soon, but I do like seeing Joe in distress. Yeah.
00:06:58 --> 00:07:01 He is in the mafia. I think he knows what he's
00:07:01 --> 00:07:04 getting himself into. And he, again, looked too
00:07:04 --> 00:07:08 happy shooting people. So it's not like he was
00:07:08 --> 00:07:11 innocent. He probably didn't deserve to die this
00:07:11 --> 00:07:15 way. He had a lot of life ahead of him. So I'm
00:07:15 --> 00:07:19 feeling pretty somewhere between mother neutral
00:07:19 --> 00:07:23 and under that into mother territory. I struggle
00:07:23 --> 00:07:27 with this one too because I don't care. I don't
00:07:27 --> 00:07:30 care about Marty. So, like, I don't know. We
00:07:30 --> 00:07:33 don't get much about him. I feel like he's just
00:07:33 --> 00:07:37 stupid, you know? And he was way too into, like,
00:07:37 --> 00:07:39 shooting everything and shooting people, shooting
00:07:39 --> 00:07:42 up the bar. So, yeah, I feel like he's got to
00:07:42 --> 00:07:46 be a slight mother. I do want to talk about Vito's
00:07:46 --> 00:07:51 reaction when he sees Marty dead. I'm starting
00:07:51 --> 00:07:55 to wonder if Vito just doesn't have. emotions
00:07:55 --> 00:08:00 for people who die or he just has seen so much
00:08:00 --> 00:08:03 in war that seeing Marty dead isn't affecting
00:08:03 --> 00:08:05 him because he did seem like he liked the kid
00:08:05 --> 00:08:07 because he was just trying to say like Joe lighten
00:08:07 --> 00:08:10 up on him don't bring him and then now he sees
00:08:10 --> 00:08:13 the kid dead he knows the consequences but he
00:08:13 --> 00:08:16 doesn't really care like he leaves the body there
00:08:16 --> 00:08:20 to sum up the rest of the scene they do catch
00:08:20 --> 00:08:23 up to Clemente and finish him off before heading
00:08:23 --> 00:08:26 back to Joe's Joe calls Eddie. He's upset about
00:08:26 --> 00:08:28 Marty, but Eddie says it's a small price to pay,
00:08:29 --> 00:08:32 which angers Joe, but Eddie responds, it was
00:08:32 --> 00:08:34 your idea to bring him along, basically. Vito
00:08:34 --> 00:08:36 seems to be taking Eddie's side, and honestly,
00:08:36 --> 00:08:40 I am too. What did Joe expect? And that's why
00:08:40 --> 00:08:42 I like seeing some of the guilt and remorse he
00:08:42 --> 00:08:44 had. I kind of wish we got more emotions from
00:08:44 --> 00:08:48 Vito, though. We haven't really seen Joe express
00:08:48 --> 00:08:51 much remorse, even though he got Vito set to
00:08:51 --> 00:08:55 war. But now he's all broken up about this. And
00:08:55 --> 00:08:58 yeah, Vito's kind of like, it's matter of fact,
00:08:58 --> 00:09:01 you knew this could happen. Which is interesting
00:09:01 --> 00:09:04 because a lot of choices that Vito's made have
00:09:04 --> 00:09:07 been like, why are you surprised? But he still
00:09:07 --> 00:09:10 does them. But Joe's not happy and says, you
00:09:10 --> 00:09:12 should go home. So they're kind of fighting a
00:09:12 --> 00:09:15 little bit, which honestly, finally, about time.
00:09:15 --> 00:09:18 I like when there's more emotions from both these
00:09:18 --> 00:09:23 guys. Moving on to scene two. So Vito has to
00:09:23 --> 00:09:27 deal with an unstable Joe and his mistakes. He's
00:09:27 --> 00:09:30 awoken by another phone call, this time from
00:09:30 --> 00:09:33 some guy named Leon, the bartender at the Lone
00:09:33 --> 00:09:36 Star. He says Joe is drunk and out of control
00:09:36 --> 00:09:38 at the bar. He's even waving his gun around.
00:09:39 --> 00:09:43 Joe is a terrible friend, Kathy. Yeah, I agree.
00:09:44 --> 00:09:49 Vito gets there. He tries to control Joe. But
00:09:49 --> 00:09:51 his gun goes off and he accidentally shoots and
00:09:51 --> 00:09:54 kills Leon, which prompts Vito to say, what the
00:09:54 --> 00:09:59 f*** is wrong with you? Valid question. I'm glad
00:09:59 --> 00:10:01 that Vito's getting irritated with Joe, but he
00:10:01 --> 00:10:03 should have left him there to deal with his own
00:10:03 --> 00:10:06 mess, in my opinion. There's that. The other
00:10:06 --> 00:10:09 part of me also wished that Vito took the gun
00:10:09 --> 00:10:11 away from Joe, which would have saved them all.
00:10:12 --> 00:10:15 This is like being proactive and that could have
00:10:15 --> 00:10:19 saved you time and so I wouldn't have died. I
00:10:19 --> 00:10:22 do find it weird that Vito is mad at Joe for
00:10:22 --> 00:10:26 shooting someone versus Vito is upset that an
00:10:26 --> 00:10:30 innocent man is dead. So he should have had Joe
00:10:30 --> 00:10:33 just deal with his own stuff, but instead, Vito
00:10:33 --> 00:10:36 single -handedly drags Leon's body into the trunk
00:10:36 --> 00:10:40 of his car, then drops Joe off at home, says
00:10:40 --> 00:10:42 to call him tomorrow, and then takes off to deal
00:10:42 --> 00:10:47 with Leon's body. All by himself. surprised that
00:10:47 --> 00:10:51 no one's after him or down the road there's no
00:10:51 --> 00:10:54 consequences again that's my issues there really
00:10:54 --> 00:10:57 is no consequences in this game how is he not
00:10:57 --> 00:11:00 in trouble they didn't clean up the crime scene
00:11:00 --> 00:11:03 at all i'm sure there's blood there i hate that
00:11:03 --> 00:11:05 they keep getting away with stuff though i mean
00:11:05 --> 00:11:08 i know veto's been in jail but when is it gonna
00:11:08 --> 00:11:11 be jill's turn that's what i want to know that's
00:11:11 --> 00:11:13 what veto should be asking what bugs me is he's
00:11:13 --> 00:11:17 in jail For the smallest crime he's done out
00:11:17 --> 00:11:21 of this entire game. He's killed people and he's
00:11:21 --> 00:11:26 buried people. Yeah, he goes to jail for what?
00:11:26 --> 00:11:31 Stamps. Should we move into chapter three? Move
00:11:31 --> 00:11:34 on to chapter three? Gosh. Scene three, chapter
00:11:34 --> 00:11:40 11. Yes. I have not eaten in a while. Okay. So,
00:11:40 --> 00:11:43 to summarize scene three, Vito's friendships
00:11:43 --> 00:11:46 start to cause issues, and as the war draws lines,
00:11:46 --> 00:11:48 Vito steps over them, putting friendships before
00:11:48 --> 00:11:54 the family. Chapter 11, A Friend of Ours. We're
00:11:54 --> 00:11:58 back at Villa Scoletta, July 27th, 1951. So,
00:11:58 --> 00:12:00 another month or so has passed, and Henry shows
00:12:00 --> 00:12:03 up at Vito's house and says he wants to get a
00:12:03 --> 00:12:06 drink. On the way, he tells Vito he knows Falcone
00:12:06 --> 00:12:09 had something to do with Clemente's death. and
00:12:09 --> 00:12:11 asks him to put in a good word for him with Falcone,
00:12:11 --> 00:12:14 because he wants to work with them due to being
00:12:14 --> 00:12:17 worried about his own safety, being in the Clemente
00:12:17 --> 00:12:19 family. Said that the worst possible way I could
00:12:19 --> 00:12:23 have, but I think I pulled it out. No, it makes
00:12:23 --> 00:12:27 sense. The good thing is that Vito agrees to
00:12:27 --> 00:12:30 vouch for him, because had he not, it was later
00:12:30 --> 00:12:36 revealed that Henry saw both Vito and Joe go
00:12:36 --> 00:12:40 in. Right. Those mustaches did not fool Henry.
00:12:40 --> 00:12:42 They could have at least worn a wig or something.
00:12:42 --> 00:12:46 Yeah. So they're talking about the life and Henry's
00:12:46 --> 00:12:49 like, this is what I am. I don't know what else
00:12:49 --> 00:12:52 I would do. And Vito says, I guess it pays a
00:12:52 --> 00:12:53 hell of a lot better than being a fucking taxi
00:12:53 --> 00:12:58 driver. Is he referring to himself as the taxi
00:12:58 --> 00:13:03 driver? I think he's referring to Tommy. Oh.
00:13:04 --> 00:13:08 I think it's an Easter egg. I totally missed
00:13:08 --> 00:13:12 this. I was waiting for it to click, but it didn't
00:13:12 --> 00:13:17 look like it was going to now. So they get to
00:13:17 --> 00:13:20 Falcone's bar where Vito gets paid and then introduces
00:13:20 --> 00:13:23 Henry to Eddie. During the conversation, a plan
00:13:23 --> 00:13:26 forms. Eddie says that Leo needs to be taken
00:13:26 --> 00:13:28 out as Frank Vinci will crumble without him.
00:13:29 --> 00:13:31 He says, I'm thinking this could be the perfect
00:13:31 --> 00:13:33 opportunity for Henry here to prove himself.
00:13:34 --> 00:13:38 Yeah, and I'm glad. Vito was saying that, I know
00:13:38 --> 00:13:41 this is for the family, but I can't do that.
00:13:42 --> 00:13:44 And Eddie seemed cool with it, respecting his
00:13:44 --> 00:13:46 boundaries. He's actually going in and he's going
00:13:46 --> 00:13:51 to try to warn Leo. But during this entire interaction
00:13:51 --> 00:13:54 of trying to save Leo, this is crazy how this
00:13:54 --> 00:13:57 is the first time we're seeing someone that Vito
00:13:57 --> 00:14:00 cares about. We've never seen him have this emotion.
00:14:00 --> 00:14:04 Yeah, he hugged his sister in the beginning.
00:14:04 --> 00:14:07 And he was kind of sad that his mom died, but
00:14:07 --> 00:14:10 he never showed any emotions of needing to rescue
00:14:10 --> 00:14:15 them. Versus Leo. I just don't understand what
00:14:15 --> 00:14:18 earns loyalty with him. But yeah, he does burst
00:14:18 --> 00:14:21 into Leo's house. I guess it was unlocked. And
00:14:21 --> 00:14:23 frantically tries to warn him. But Leo just says,
00:14:23 --> 00:14:25 come on up for a drink. My feet are getting cold.
00:14:26 --> 00:14:28 Through their conversation, Vito's trying to
00:14:28 --> 00:14:31 warn him and says that Clemente lied and said
00:14:31 --> 00:14:34 Falcone was in the dope business. But Leo says
00:14:34 --> 00:14:36 he was in the dope business, and Falcone got
00:14:36 --> 00:14:38 rid of Clemente when he tried to muscle into
00:14:38 --> 00:14:41 his business. So he killed him. And now he wants
00:14:41 --> 00:14:44 the rest of us dead, he says. Just kill everyone.
00:14:45 --> 00:14:48 Problem solved. Then Leo says, why don't we just
00:14:48 --> 00:14:51 get rid of whoever Carlos sent to whack me? And
00:14:51 --> 00:14:54 this is when he learns that Vito's friend is
00:14:54 --> 00:14:57 the one who's supposed to kill him. I love his
00:14:57 --> 00:14:59 line, though. You hired your friend to whack
00:14:59 --> 00:15:04 me? I think it's... Kind of funny that Vito and
00:15:04 --> 00:15:08 Henry are very similar in the way that Henry's
00:15:08 --> 00:15:10 okay with helping out two different families
00:15:10 --> 00:15:13 and switching around. And Vito is now in the
00:15:13 --> 00:15:17 same boat where he's helping out his family and
00:15:17 --> 00:15:21 getting Henry in it, yet immediately he's also
00:15:21 --> 00:15:24 trying to help Leo out. So he's like a two -timer
00:15:24 --> 00:15:31 too. Yeah. And even Leo kind of is. Because he
00:15:31 --> 00:15:34 helped him, even though he was part of whatever
00:15:34 --> 00:15:40 group he was initially. Again, lots of intersecting
00:15:40 --> 00:15:43 threads, lots of stepping over lines going on.
00:15:44 --> 00:15:46 Okay, so they need to escape without Henry seeing
00:15:46 --> 00:15:49 them. But that doesn't happen. I get caught pretty
00:15:49 --> 00:15:52 easily. I did not hear Leo say, go to the laundry
00:15:52 --> 00:15:56 room to get some sheets. Didn't at all. And I
00:15:56 --> 00:15:58 was going to go back and replay it, and I don't
00:15:58 --> 00:16:00 know what that would look like, but I'm honestly
00:16:00 --> 00:16:02 kind of happy with how it turned out. They have
00:16:02 --> 00:16:05 a chat in the kitchen, all three of them. Vito
00:16:05 --> 00:16:07 explains his side that he can't let Leo die,
00:16:07 --> 00:16:10 but Henry says he can't screw this up or Falcone
00:16:10 --> 00:16:11 will think he did it on purpose and have him
00:16:11 --> 00:16:15 killed. Leo's like, go ahead, kill me. I lived
00:16:15 --> 00:16:18 a great life. So he's totally cool just getting
00:16:18 --> 00:16:22 shot and killed just to protect Vito. he's gained
00:16:22 --> 00:16:24 some respect from me which i was not expecting
00:16:24 --> 00:16:29 it i do appreciate like that that's pretty that's
00:16:29 --> 00:16:33 pretty cool yeah and then fast forward a bit
00:16:33 --> 00:16:37 you hear gunshot you think that oh henry actually
00:16:37 --> 00:16:39 killed leo and then henry comes out and says
00:16:39 --> 00:16:43 hey you owe me one and then turns out he didn't
00:16:43 --> 00:16:45 kill leo i can't believe i'm saying this but
00:16:45 --> 00:16:48 i feel like i he's gained a little bit of respect
00:16:48 --> 00:16:51 from me who would have thought henry had it in
00:16:51 --> 00:16:54 him to to be like that and it kind of makes you
00:16:54 --> 00:16:56 wonder why i mean i think leo is good at making
00:16:56 --> 00:16:58 deals which is what happened he made a deal to
00:16:58 --> 00:17:01 disappear or has veto just really wormed his
00:17:01 --> 00:17:03 way into henry's heart that much i don't think
00:17:03 --> 00:17:06 so i don't think so either i don't know what
00:17:06 --> 00:17:09 it is because henry was set on killing leo and
00:17:09 --> 00:17:14 just disappearing is not enough so maybe henry
00:17:14 --> 00:17:17 wants Vito to owe him something and so he can
00:17:17 --> 00:17:20 cash in on that in the future. But I do feel
00:17:20 --> 00:17:25 like Henry is cool with Vito. They have this
00:17:25 --> 00:17:27 special understanding. It's a pretty big risk
00:17:27 --> 00:17:31 to take for him. Vito and Leo head out to the
00:17:31 --> 00:17:33 train station. Does not take time to change.
00:17:34 --> 00:17:35 He says, I'd rather be alive in my pajamas than
00:17:35 --> 00:17:38 dead in a three -piece suit. Agreed. Can't disagree.
00:17:39 --> 00:17:41 And then, yeah, he drops him off at the train
00:17:41 --> 00:17:45 station and heads home. You drop him off? By
00:17:45 --> 00:17:49 being on top of, what do you call those? The
00:17:49 --> 00:17:52 barricade things? Curb. The curb. Yeah. I don't
00:17:52 --> 00:17:55 know. The medians. That's what it's called. Yeah.
00:17:56 --> 00:17:59 So I think what happened is I got close enough
00:17:59 --> 00:18:04 to the end point. And so I just stopped to do
00:18:04 --> 00:18:07 the cut scene of them talking. But I was like,
00:18:07 --> 00:18:10 surely this can't be it. So you can see me moving
00:18:10 --> 00:18:12 the camera around. But the tires aren't even
00:18:12 --> 00:18:14 spinning. So the car is just not supposed to
00:18:14 --> 00:18:16 be moving at that point in time. That was not
00:18:16 --> 00:18:19 my intended parking space, is what I'm trying
00:18:19 --> 00:18:25 to say. Scene four? Yep. Vito arrives home to
00:18:25 --> 00:18:28 find Francesca on his porch. She's upset because
00:18:28 --> 00:18:30 her husband, Eric, drinks and parties, and she's
00:18:30 --> 00:18:34 certain he has a girlfriend. Vito is able to
00:18:34 --> 00:18:36 get her to confess that he sometimes hits her,
00:18:36 --> 00:18:40 but she still begs him not to hurt Eric. I do
00:18:40 --> 00:18:42 have a lot of thoughts, and I don't want to get
00:18:42 --> 00:18:45 into it with the whole conversation about domestic
00:18:45 --> 00:18:48 abuse, domestic violence, but I'm irritated how
00:18:48 --> 00:18:52 Frankie is still protective of her husband despite
00:18:52 --> 00:18:56 getting beat by him. And I kind of respect Vito
00:18:56 --> 00:18:59 a little bit more now that he's asking the right
00:18:59 --> 00:19:02 questions as, oh, he hurts my sister, so now
00:19:02 --> 00:19:05 I'm going to hurt her husband. He does find him
00:19:05 --> 00:19:08 and beat him up. Give him a stern threat. That
00:19:08 --> 00:19:10 was so satisfying. I kind of wish he killed him
00:19:10 --> 00:19:13 though. Not to mention this place in general.
00:19:13 --> 00:19:15 Just a drunk guy falling out of the door. Someone
00:19:15 --> 00:19:18 vomiting. Things are happening here. And it makes
00:19:18 --> 00:19:21 me so glad that I'm a boring person. Because
00:19:21 --> 00:19:24 that just looks disgusting to me. So Vito heads
00:19:24 --> 00:19:27 home to find his phone ringing. It's Francesca.
00:19:27 --> 00:19:29 And she's a bit irritated that he hurt Eric.
00:19:30 --> 00:19:32 But gets more upset when Vito threatens to kill
00:19:32 --> 00:19:36 him. If he hurts her again. She says, I don't
00:19:36 --> 00:19:38 know you anymore. You stay away from us. Is she
00:19:38 --> 00:19:40 scared of him? Is that where this is coming from?
00:19:41 --> 00:19:45 No, I think it's... Well, it's so hard to justify
00:19:45 --> 00:19:49 because she's fine with her husband hitting someone,
00:19:49 --> 00:19:51 which is her, but she's not okay with her brother
00:19:51 --> 00:19:54 hitting someone. So isn't that a bit of a hypocrite?
00:19:55 --> 00:19:58 Yeah, and we don't know. Maybe she thought that
00:19:58 --> 00:20:02 hitting him would then make him hit her. I don't
00:20:02 --> 00:20:04 know. I don't know how your brain works in that
00:20:04 --> 00:20:07 kind of situation, but it hit me as odd at first
00:20:07 --> 00:20:09 where I was like, really, Frankie? Like, why?
00:20:09 --> 00:20:12 Why are you mad at him? But I think it's just
00:20:12 --> 00:20:15 showing her what kind of person he is and what,
00:20:15 --> 00:20:19 like, what he gets up to because he did it so,
00:20:19 --> 00:20:23 like, without hesitation. Vito goes to sleep
00:20:23 --> 00:20:26 and an Irish gang sets his house on fire. We
00:20:26 --> 00:20:28 just slept right into that. You have the same
00:20:28 --> 00:20:31 question, but how did they not see him? Yeah.
00:20:31 --> 00:20:33 Unceremoniously flop out of the window like that.
00:20:34 --> 00:20:39 He was like, what, six feet away? Ran right past
00:20:39 --> 00:20:42 him. But how did the Irish know where to find
00:20:42 --> 00:20:47 him? I don't know. Public records, maybe? That
00:20:47 --> 00:20:50 sounded really snarky, but I'm like, could you
00:20:50 --> 00:20:53 just look it up maybe in the phone book? Yeah,
00:20:53 --> 00:20:59 I don't know. Vito sprints like three blocks
00:20:59 --> 00:21:03 barefoot in his undies and then steals a car
00:21:03 --> 00:21:07 as he's running for his life. Gets into this
00:21:07 --> 00:21:14 car. And what is playing on the radio? I'm like,
00:21:14 --> 00:21:17 there's no way. I laughed so hard when I was
00:21:17 --> 00:21:21 recording the gameplay. It just catches you off
00:21:21 --> 00:21:26 guard. It's such a tone shift. Okay, why go to
00:21:26 --> 00:21:29 Joe's, though? He should be going to Henry after
00:21:29 --> 00:21:32 what he just did for him. It's his go -to person,
00:21:32 --> 00:21:36 and I'm surprised Joe is awake enough and not
00:21:36 --> 00:21:41 so in a slump from Marty. I don't know. One day,
00:21:41 --> 00:21:43 going to Joe's is what's going to get him killed.
00:21:44 --> 00:21:47 Vito wants to go get the men who tried to kill
00:21:47 --> 00:21:49 him. Joe makes a call and finds out where to
00:21:49 --> 00:21:52 go. On the way there, he says that the new Irish
00:21:52 --> 00:21:55 boss Mickey Desmond is Brian O 'Neill's cousin.
00:21:56 --> 00:21:59 So they get to the bar and kill most of them
00:21:59 --> 00:22:01 before chasing down the last few and ending them
00:22:01 --> 00:22:05 as well. Also, so we're in a car chase. Naturally,
00:22:06 --> 00:22:09 I run a red light, right? And Joe complains about
00:22:09 --> 00:22:12 me running the red light. Versus murder? Murder?
00:22:12 --> 00:22:16 Okay. Running red lights? Not okay. And how many
00:22:16 --> 00:22:17 times have I ran a red light with him in the
00:22:17 --> 00:22:20 car and now he complains? Maybe he's still a
00:22:20 --> 00:22:23 little salty. There is another scene in this
00:22:23 --> 00:22:27 whole, these last few minutes, where you're in
00:22:27 --> 00:22:30 a car. As soon as you get out of the car, a police
00:22:30 --> 00:22:34 car slams right into you. I know, and I just
00:22:34 --> 00:22:36 ignore it and keep going to the destination.
00:22:36 --> 00:22:39 And you're able to go into the bar without getting
00:22:39 --> 00:22:42 arrested. I was amazed that that happened. I
00:22:42 --> 00:22:45 thought for sure I'd have to start over. Joe
00:22:45 --> 00:22:47 tells Vito that he can stay at Marty's apartment.
00:22:48 --> 00:22:50 Yeah, that's it. Then Joe glitches over a barricade.
00:22:51 --> 00:22:56 And that's the end of that chapter. We'll leave
00:22:56 --> 00:23:00 it at that. Alright, should we close this out?
00:23:00 --> 00:23:06 Scene 5, Chapter 12. It is titled Sea Gift. Marty's
00:23:06 --> 00:23:10 apartment, September 22, 1951. Henry calls Vito
00:23:10 --> 00:23:12 and asks him to meet him at a park. I'm setting
00:23:12 --> 00:23:15 up something big, he says. Joe's already there
00:23:15 --> 00:23:18 when Vito arrives. And Henry says he's done some
00:23:18 --> 00:23:20 research to discover that Falcone had Clemente
00:23:20 --> 00:23:22 killed because he was stealing dope customers.
00:23:23 --> 00:23:26 He says Falcone just needs to get rid of Frank
00:23:26 --> 00:23:28 Vinci, the last guy in his way to becoming the
00:23:28 --> 00:23:31 main supplier in the city. So a couple of blank
00:23:31 --> 00:23:33 filled in there. Kind of understanding why the
00:23:33 --> 00:23:36 war has gotten so heated. Everyone's stealing
00:23:36 --> 00:23:39 everyone's customers. Except for that one dude
00:23:39 --> 00:23:43 who says no drugs. He'd probably... Well, I don't
00:23:43 --> 00:23:46 know. Don't they all say no drugs, though? Yeah.
00:23:47 --> 00:23:49 Even in the first game, no drugs, but what if
00:23:49 --> 00:23:52 we end up doing drugs? They might as well just
00:23:52 --> 00:23:55 allow it into the system at this point, you know?
00:23:57 --> 00:23:59 Henry seems to have found out how lucrative the
00:23:59 --> 00:24:01 dope game is and spouts off some math about heroin.
00:24:02 --> 00:24:05 Basically, he wants to start selling under Falcone's
00:24:05 --> 00:24:07 nose. They'll just cut him in if he finds out.
00:24:08 --> 00:24:11 He says he found a way to be the middleman for
00:24:11 --> 00:24:14 a Chinese drug runner. But they need to get money
00:24:14 --> 00:24:17 from a loan shark to buy the drugs. Vito is pretty
00:24:17 --> 00:24:20 hesitant about selling drugs. He really doesn't
00:24:20 --> 00:24:23 want to do it. But he folds. We'll later see
00:24:23 --> 00:24:27 how happy he is selling it. So come on, Vito.
00:24:27 --> 00:24:30 I get that he's now the swanky guy who would
00:24:30 --> 00:24:32 rather stay in a hotel than Marty's apartment.
00:24:32 --> 00:24:34 He's mad that his house got burned down and wants
00:24:34 --> 00:24:37 his cash back. But I feel like that's not good
00:24:37 --> 00:24:41 enough reason to all of a sudden switch to selling
00:24:41 --> 00:24:44 drugs. Yeah, I was like, did you for a split
00:24:44 --> 00:24:47 second forget that year everything got burnt
00:24:47 --> 00:24:49 up in the fire? And you're like, oh yeah, I need
00:24:49 --> 00:24:52 money now. Or, like, what was it? Because it
00:24:52 --> 00:24:57 was a pretty fast flip. Henry gets taken for
00:24:57 --> 00:24:59 a ride in negotiations with the loan shark Bruno,
00:24:59 --> 00:25:02 but he eventually agrees to loan Henry the money.
00:25:03 --> 00:25:05 He says, even if you get rid of me, it doesn't
00:25:05 --> 00:25:07 get rid of your debt. It's a pretty rock -solid
00:25:07 --> 00:25:09 business model he's created for himself here.
00:25:10 --> 00:25:12 Well, I feel like... The Chinese people know
00:25:12 --> 00:25:15 how to do math. I say that because I'm Chinese.
00:25:17 --> 00:25:20 I don't know how to respond to that. There is
00:25:20 --> 00:25:22 no response unless you want to be called a racist.
00:25:23 --> 00:25:26 Not to mention Joe in the park using a racial
00:25:26 --> 00:25:30 slur. And then Vito's like, oh, you mean the
00:25:30 --> 00:25:32 Chinese people? And he's like, yeah, that's what
00:25:32 --> 00:25:34 I said. And then says the slur again. I'm like,
00:25:34 --> 00:25:37 you're so stupid. Like he's going out of his
00:25:37 --> 00:25:40 way to use the slur. And so I'm so confused because
00:25:40 --> 00:25:43 in the first half of this episode, he was like
00:25:43 --> 00:25:47 smart and cool cum collected. And then it just
00:25:47 --> 00:25:49 all of a sudden he flips back to this. I'm like,
00:25:49 --> 00:25:51 what is wrong with this character? He's a damn
00:25:51 --> 00:25:55 idiot again. With the money in hand, they go
00:25:55 --> 00:25:57 see Mr. Wong and purchase the drugs. But on the
00:25:57 --> 00:26:00 way out, they're jumped by the cops, except they
00:26:00 --> 00:26:02 turn out to not be cops. And a shootout begins.
00:26:03 --> 00:26:05 Henry says someone else must have known about
00:26:05 --> 00:26:09 the deal. Then starts an extremely loud montage
00:26:09 --> 00:26:13 of them selling drugs to dealers. Yes, I forgot
00:26:13 --> 00:26:15 how loud that was. I will adjust the audio before
00:26:15 --> 00:26:18 I post it. Do not fear, people. It won't be perfect,
00:26:18 --> 00:26:21 but it will be better than the original. That
00:26:21 --> 00:26:26 whole montage is driving me nuts. So we get one
00:26:26 --> 00:26:30 before as soon as they join the mafia and there's
00:26:30 --> 00:26:33 this whole two boys frolicking through the city
00:26:33 --> 00:26:35 and beating people up. And now we get three boys.
00:26:36 --> 00:26:39 selling drugs with an end scene that's super
00:26:39 --> 00:26:42 corny where the three of them are just walking
00:26:42 --> 00:26:45 down the streets in their suits and isn't this
00:26:45 --> 00:26:48 all supposed to be taking place in one day because
00:26:48 --> 00:26:50 joe's like veto it's 20 grand in one day and
00:26:50 --> 00:26:52 they're like two of them are passed out in the
00:26:52 --> 00:26:56 car like you're acting like this is a month here
00:26:56 --> 00:26:59 i had like questions because i don't know if
00:26:59 --> 00:27:02 this is just one a one -time thing or if they
00:27:02 --> 00:27:06 have been doing for a full month because There's
00:27:06 --> 00:27:09 too many cut scenes within this montage for it
00:27:09 --> 00:27:11 to be just one afternoon. I know. Because I thought
00:27:11 --> 00:27:13 it was just one afternoon. But yeah, that's like
00:27:13 --> 00:27:21 way too much. Anything else from you? No. That's
00:27:21 --> 00:27:23 it for me too. We'll finish out the gameplay
00:27:23 --> 00:27:25 next week. And then we'll do the summary after
00:27:25 --> 00:27:29 that. Sounds good. Audacity on one. Three, two,
00:27:29 --> 00:27:31 one. Thank you for listening. And don't forget
00:27:31 --> 00:27:34 to send in any questions, comments, or game suggestions.
