00:00:00 --> 00:00:04 scary christmas merry christmas eve we are playing
00:00:04 --> 00:00:07 undead nightmare which is the dlc for red dead
00:00:07 --> 00:00:10 redemption i think you didn't know it was gonna
00:00:10 --> 00:00:13 be no i saw the intro like the rock star i'm
00:00:13 --> 00:00:16 like didn't we play a game that was from them
00:00:16 --> 00:00:19 and then you're just keeping quiet and it makes
00:00:19 --> 00:00:22 sense that it is the dlc for red dead redemption
00:00:22 --> 00:00:28 well in this episode ain't you a sweet little
00:00:28 --> 00:00:33 lady Are you constipated? And why the Long John's
00:00:33 --> 00:00:37 double cheat close -up? Didn't need that. It's
00:00:37 --> 00:00:42 in your face. Thank you for coming back for more
00:00:42 --> 00:00:44 replay reviews. My name is Leah. And my name
00:00:44 --> 00:00:46 is Kathy. We are two friends who are here to
00:00:46 --> 00:00:49 replay, review, and analyze your favorite video
00:00:49 --> 00:00:51 games. And since Kathy has never seen the games
00:00:51 --> 00:00:53 before, it helps me view them through her fresh
00:00:53 --> 00:00:56 eyes, almost like I'm discovering them again
00:00:56 --> 00:00:58 for the first time. We hope it will be a similar
00:00:58 --> 00:01:07 experience for you. So yeah, as we discussed,
00:01:07 --> 00:01:09 you had no idea this was going to be Red Dead.
00:01:09 --> 00:01:12 And I didn't want you to know because I wanted
00:01:12 --> 00:01:15 you to be confused. Because obviously John dies
00:01:15 --> 00:01:17 at the end of the game. I was worried we'd have
00:01:17 --> 00:01:21 to see him die twice. Thankfully not. So the
00:01:21 --> 00:01:25 timeline is after he gets back to his farm. But
00:01:25 --> 00:01:29 before the Pinkertons come and shoot him. So
00:01:29 --> 00:01:33 we start seeing John return from an errand. I
00:01:33 --> 00:01:35 don't know about you, but I really enjoy just
00:01:35 --> 00:01:38 how committed they are to the theme in this game.
00:01:38 --> 00:01:41 Just the narration, the sound effects. Immediately,
00:01:41 --> 00:01:46 I'm invested. It has that really radio type of
00:01:46 --> 00:01:51 horror story. The more you see it, the more unhinged
00:01:51 --> 00:01:54 it gets. So we then see Abigail and Jack. They're
00:01:54 --> 00:01:58 having a nice, sarcastic, rainy day inside. When
00:01:58 --> 00:02:00 John gets home, he and Abigail discuss Uncle's
00:02:00 --> 00:02:03 whereabouts. During which we see a hand raising
00:02:03 --> 00:02:06 over the window sill. And it seems like they
00:02:06 --> 00:02:09 kind of see it, but choose to ignore it. Again,
00:02:09 --> 00:02:13 fantastic. They're just leaning so into, like,
00:02:13 --> 00:02:15 the old goofy horror. The ignorance is at an
00:02:15 --> 00:02:18 all -time high. Speaking of, I love that John
00:02:18 --> 00:02:20 comes in and he's like, it's... Things are getting
00:02:20 --> 00:02:22 weird out there. He's like, dogs are barking.
00:02:22 --> 00:02:25 Birds are flying. It's like everything he said
00:02:25 --> 00:02:29 is completely normal and it cracks me up. What's
00:02:29 --> 00:02:31 your next note? Mine is, is he scratching his
00:02:31 --> 00:02:35 butt? There's a moment it looks like he's just
00:02:35 --> 00:02:37 digging in. Mine is about when Jack talks about
00:02:37 --> 00:02:42 the book he's reading. Okay. So he talks about
00:02:42 --> 00:02:45 a story about the Aztecs and worshipping the
00:02:45 --> 00:02:48 moon. And just weird things going on, which I
00:02:48 --> 00:02:50 know it's trying to foreshadow something, but
00:02:50 --> 00:02:53 I don't understand why John spaces out at that
00:02:53 --> 00:02:55 type of story. Is it that he's hearing something
00:02:55 --> 00:02:57 and it reminds him of something or he's just
00:02:57 --> 00:03:00 so bored that he just spaces out? This is what
00:03:00 --> 00:03:03 I wrote. John staring at Jack describing the
00:03:03 --> 00:03:06 book he's reading is heartbreaking. Because in
00:03:06 --> 00:03:09 that moment, I feel like he's just, yes, he's
00:03:09 --> 00:03:11 spacing out, but he's spacing out in a way where
00:03:11 --> 00:03:14 he's like admiring Jack. Like he's just looking
00:03:14 --> 00:03:16 at him lovingly and being like, man, I love my
00:03:16 --> 00:03:19 son. Look at how happy reading makes him and
00:03:19 --> 00:03:21 all this stuff. And to me, it was heartbreaking
00:03:21 --> 00:03:23 because it's like he didn't get to enjoy that
00:03:23 --> 00:03:27 for very much longer. Next note. When he kills
00:03:27 --> 00:03:32 uncle. Yeah. Okay. So first they all go to bed.
00:03:32 --> 00:03:34 First of all, that bed is huge, is it not? They
00:03:34 --> 00:03:37 look tiny in that bed. Yeah, you could fit like
00:03:37 --> 00:03:41 a dog in there. Massive dog. But yes, so then
00:03:41 --> 00:03:45 Uncle comes barging into their room. Clearly
00:03:45 --> 00:03:49 a zombie. John grabs him by the throat and smashes
00:03:49 --> 00:03:53 a lamp into his head. But how did Uncle get in?
00:03:53 --> 00:03:56 How did they know how to open doors and find
00:03:56 --> 00:04:00 the right room to attack? I'm just going to chalk
00:04:00 --> 00:04:03 it up to muscle memory. Maybe he watched them
00:04:03 --> 00:04:07 sleep often. I mean, it could have been prevented
00:04:07 --> 00:04:10 if they freaking locked the front door. Unless
00:04:10 --> 00:04:12 he has keys. Like, how much do they remember?
00:04:12 --> 00:04:15 How much motor skills do they retain? When John
00:04:15 --> 00:04:18 runs out to get his gun, Abigail is attacked
00:04:18 --> 00:04:20 by Uncle. They come running out of the house.
00:04:21 --> 00:04:24 Wouldn't the better decision have been John saying,
00:04:24 --> 00:04:26 I'll stay here, you go out and run and grab my
00:04:26 --> 00:04:29 gun, or we're going to lock him in. Don't they
00:04:29 --> 00:04:33 realize that leaving your distressed wife in
00:04:33 --> 00:04:37 with a zombie thing, that's not a good idea.
00:04:37 --> 00:04:40 Why didn't she leave either? I find it hard to
00:04:40 --> 00:04:43 believe his gun is out in the shed. You can't
00:04:43 --> 00:04:45 tell me this man doesn't sleep with his gun under
00:04:45 --> 00:04:48 his pillow. So many questions. Anyway, poor decisions
00:04:48 --> 00:04:52 were made. Everyone's outside. Uncle takes down
00:04:52 --> 00:04:56 Abigail. John kills Uncle. And then Jack shows
00:04:56 --> 00:04:59 up. And Abigail bites Jack. Chaos. So many things
00:04:59 --> 00:05:04 could have been prevented. My goodness. I think
00:05:04 --> 00:05:06 that's the point, though. I think it's kind of
00:05:06 --> 00:05:10 like making fun of or paying homage to horror
00:05:10 --> 00:05:13 shows. You know what I mean? It's frustrating
00:05:13 --> 00:05:15 to watch. So I think it's intended to be funny.
00:05:16 --> 00:05:20 And this entire time, John and Jack are wearing
00:05:20 --> 00:05:25 matching long johns or little onesies. At least
00:05:25 --> 00:05:27 it doesn't have the butt flap, but it doesn't
00:05:27 --> 00:05:32 prevent the zoom in. So we have to hog tie Abigail
00:05:32 --> 00:05:36 and Jack. First, there's enough when we're tying
00:05:36 --> 00:05:38 up Abigail, but then we tie up Jack and it's
00:05:38 --> 00:05:41 like, hello. Right up his butthole. Is the camera
00:05:41 --> 00:05:43 going in between his cheeks? What's happening
00:05:43 --> 00:05:46 here? Okay, also, I don't know if you noticed
00:05:46 --> 00:05:48 when he was hog -tying Abigail. In the background,
00:05:48 --> 00:05:51 you can see Jack chasing Rufus. Oh, I did notice
00:05:51 --> 00:05:54 that. What? Great little touch to add in there.
00:05:55 --> 00:05:58 So he brings his hog -tied family into the bedroom
00:05:58 --> 00:06:02 and brings them plates of food. And then he leaves
00:06:02 --> 00:06:04 to go find help in Blackwater. Isn't he worried
00:06:04 --> 00:06:07 about his family leaving the house, leaving the
00:06:07 --> 00:06:09 room? I don't think so, because they're tied
00:06:09 --> 00:06:11 up. Oh, okay. So he must have great confidence
00:06:11 --> 00:06:16 in his... Not tying abilities. Mm -hmm. Guess
00:06:16 --> 00:06:21 who's back? Oh my goodness. How did this guy
00:06:21 --> 00:06:24 make it so far amongst everything happening?
00:06:25 --> 00:06:28 Oh, where he goes, trouble follows. It's McDougal.
00:06:29 --> 00:06:31 John wanders the streets until he runs into him.
00:06:32 --> 00:06:34 And they discuss what's going on. And I have
00:06:34 --> 00:06:36 to say, the line delivery is impeccable. He's
00:06:36 --> 00:06:38 talking about all these things that he knows
00:06:38 --> 00:06:41 about. But of this, he says, I haven't got a
00:06:41 --> 00:06:44 fucking clue. Great. Perhaps better, though,
00:06:44 --> 00:06:47 is when he insists on walking down the street
00:06:47 --> 00:06:50 on his own, where a zombie Nastas attacks him.
00:06:51 --> 00:06:55 And that just feels good. After he insults people
00:06:55 --> 00:07:00 and then he gets killed. I like it. At a minimum.
00:07:01 --> 00:07:05 John finds another survivor in Blackwater. Come
00:07:05 --> 00:07:10 out. I don't bite. Bad joke. Sassy John is back.
00:07:10 --> 00:07:13 He's back in full force. There are a number of
00:07:13 --> 00:07:16 eye rolls that the camera actually follows. So
00:07:16 --> 00:07:19 in this conversation, some things to note. She
00:07:19 --> 00:07:21 says, all the dead folk have come back to life,
00:07:21 --> 00:07:23 mister. And then if you can burn them, maybe
00:07:23 --> 00:07:26 you can put their souls to rest. And she asks
00:07:26 --> 00:07:32 him to especially kill her uncle Mordecai. I
00:07:32 --> 00:07:34 have to say, this chick is kind of creepy, though,
00:07:34 --> 00:07:37 the way she like clings onto John. I almost thought
00:07:37 --> 00:07:38 that she was going to pull past him like, just
00:07:38 --> 00:07:41 kidding, I'm dead. And just. bite his arm yeah
00:07:41 --> 00:07:45 she's kind of creepy the way she follows him
00:07:45 --> 00:07:48 their whole family by the sounds of it is they're
00:07:48 --> 00:07:50 all kind of you wouldn't want them to be your
00:07:50 --> 00:07:54 neighbors nope so at the graveyard we burn coffins
00:07:54 --> 00:07:58 and then burn all the zombies in there including
00:07:58 --> 00:08:01 uncle mordecai who i think when he pops out of
00:08:01 --> 00:08:03 his grave says ain't you a sweet little lady
00:08:03 --> 00:08:06 which gives a little bit of a disturbing background
00:08:06 --> 00:08:10 as to why she wants him dead so badly But with
00:08:10 --> 00:08:13 Uncle Mordecai dead and the graveyard cleansed,
00:08:13 --> 00:08:15 John heads back to Blackwater where he helps
00:08:15 --> 00:08:19 survivors clear the town. One survivor tells
00:08:19 --> 00:08:21 John it's the freak with the glass eye, and then
00:08:21 --> 00:08:23 someone else says no, it's the snake oil guy,
00:08:23 --> 00:08:26 among other theories, and they say it's worse
00:08:26 --> 00:08:30 in New Austin. So I don't understand what unique
00:08:30 --> 00:08:34 traits New Austin has that would have increased
00:08:34 --> 00:08:38 more undead people, but also how do they know
00:08:38 --> 00:08:41 this information? It's all seeming like just
00:08:41 --> 00:08:45 fear speaking, and there's nothing to back up
00:08:45 --> 00:08:49 any of what they're saying. So after this, John
00:08:49 --> 00:08:51 heads out in search of Wes Dickens and Seth.
00:08:52 --> 00:08:55 Okay, so on our way to New Austin, we stop in
00:08:55 --> 00:08:59 to see Bonnie. They have a nice long hug, and
00:08:59 --> 00:09:01 then she tells him that her father has been in
00:09:01 --> 00:09:05 the barn since yesterday. Bonnie. I think she
00:09:05 --> 00:09:08 knows what happened to her dad. 100%. She knows.
00:09:10 --> 00:09:13 We find Wes Dickens at Fort Mercer peddling tonic
00:09:13 --> 00:09:15 until John threatens him into handing them out
00:09:15 --> 00:09:20 for free. How is Wes Dickens alive? I feel like
00:09:20 --> 00:09:23 someone like him should have been the first few
00:09:23 --> 00:09:27 people dead. Maybe his tonic really does work,
00:09:27 --> 00:09:32 Kathy. Does it? We'll see. I think not. But I
00:09:32 --> 00:09:35 love how John... He already knows Wes Dickens
00:09:35 --> 00:09:38 at this point, so he's like shutting down the
00:09:38 --> 00:09:41 BS before it even starts. I appreciate that because
00:09:41 --> 00:09:47 Mexico John would have never done that. Wes Dickens
00:09:47 --> 00:09:48 is peddling this thing like, oh, it keeps the
00:09:48 --> 00:09:51 zombies away. And he's like, it works, John,
00:09:51 --> 00:09:55 trust me. So they test it out. Turns out it's
00:09:55 --> 00:09:57 the exact opposite. It most definitely attracts
00:09:57 --> 00:10:00 zombies. But somehow Wes Dickens convinces John
00:10:00 --> 00:10:03 to gather some ingredients for him. And I'm back
00:10:03 --> 00:10:06 to annoy that John for helping Wes Dickens. So
00:10:06 --> 00:10:09 he collects Desert Sage and then heads to find
00:10:09 --> 00:10:12 Violet Snowdrops, which are on the northern part
00:10:12 --> 00:10:14 of the map. However, on the way, he stops in
00:10:14 --> 00:10:16 Armadillo to see the Marshal, who needs help
00:10:16 --> 00:10:20 locating his deputies. I think we knew how that
00:10:20 --> 00:10:23 was going to turn out. No surprise there. They're
00:10:23 --> 00:10:25 eating each other, and then John kills them.
00:10:25 --> 00:10:28 I'm surprised that the Sheriff is alive. I know
00:10:28 --> 00:10:30 he's a smart man, but... How are these undead
00:10:30 --> 00:10:33 people not seeking their revenge on their share?
00:10:33 --> 00:10:35 Especially those who have been wronged or killed
00:10:35 --> 00:10:38 by him. I'm glad he's alive. I'm surprised he's
00:10:38 --> 00:10:42 alive, though. So after helping in Armadillo,
00:10:42 --> 00:10:45 John continues west in search of the Violet Snowdrops
00:10:45 --> 00:10:49 when he finds Seth. Oh my gosh. Oh, buddy. This
00:10:49 --> 00:10:54 guy. So Moses is back. Yes. And they're playing
00:10:54 --> 00:10:58 cards together. I'm confused how... And why Moses
00:10:58 --> 00:11:01 isn't immediately attacking Seth, is it that
00:11:01 --> 00:11:05 Seth feels like one of their own? This whole
00:11:05 --> 00:11:08 thing must be Seth's, like, biggest dream come
00:11:08 --> 00:11:12 realized. So Seth is not wanting to be helpful,
00:11:12 --> 00:11:15 and is trying to get Moses to attack John. Moses,
00:11:15 --> 00:11:21 get him. Go. Yeah. Get him. Get me, Moses. And
00:11:21 --> 00:11:24 that just makes Seth pause in the middle of his
00:11:24 --> 00:11:28 step. But I love how John isn't afraid. What's
00:11:28 --> 00:11:30 the worst that could happen? I could take him
00:11:30 --> 00:11:34 on. So in the end, Seth does at least suggest
00:11:34 --> 00:11:37 clearing out their graveyards. So we leave him.
00:11:37 --> 00:11:40 We go farther north, gather the flowers we need.
00:11:40 --> 00:11:44 Then we return to Wes Dickens, clearing out graveyards
00:11:44 --> 00:11:47 on his way, as Seth suggested. And then when
00:11:47 --> 00:11:50 we find Wes Dickens, he's being pursued by a
00:11:50 --> 00:11:53 zombie. He looks so pathetic trying to get back
00:11:53 --> 00:11:55 in his thing while trying to fight off a zombie
00:11:55 --> 00:11:59 person. And really, John's in no rush to shoot
00:11:59 --> 00:12:03 the zombie and help Wes Dickens. This is so John's
00:12:03 --> 00:12:07 natural response compared to what we've seen
00:12:07 --> 00:12:09 him in Red Dead Redemption. And I love this for
00:12:09 --> 00:12:13 John. I love how he's able to just hold off from
00:12:13 --> 00:12:15 helping someone and just enjoy the moment of
00:12:15 --> 00:12:18 someone struggling. Props to the writers for...
00:12:18 --> 00:12:22 John's character being a bit more, he knows what
00:12:22 --> 00:12:24 he's doing and he's a little bit more lighthearted
00:12:24 --> 00:12:26 because he's got his family back. Yeah, they're
00:12:26 --> 00:12:29 zombies. But, you know, he's not being held at
00:12:29 --> 00:12:33 gunpoint to do other people's biddings. And you
00:12:33 --> 00:12:36 can tell, it shows. Well, of course, he sends
00:12:36 --> 00:12:39 John to go get something else. And then we move
00:12:39 --> 00:12:42 on to scene five. John cleanses the tumbleweed
00:12:42 --> 00:12:46 cemetery before returning to Seth. what's wrong
00:12:46 --> 00:12:48 with him now there's a whole dance party where
00:12:48 --> 00:12:51 is he collecting these zombies that was my note
00:12:51 --> 00:12:55 which is how and from where and why aren't they
00:12:55 --> 00:12:58 attacking him there's a lot of questions here
00:12:58 --> 00:13:00 and they're all good questions speaking of questions
00:13:00 --> 00:13:04 when john appears angry as any sane person would
00:13:04 --> 00:13:08 seth asks him are you constipated not such a
00:13:08 --> 00:13:12 seth answer though or seth question right just
00:13:12 --> 00:13:15 where is this question coming from It makes me
00:13:15 --> 00:13:18 think that Seth is constipated often and it makes
00:13:18 --> 00:13:21 him angry, frustrated at the very least. He has
00:13:21 --> 00:13:25 hemorrhoids. If he doesn't, he's gonna because
00:13:25 --> 00:13:28 he swallowed the glass eye. Oh my gosh. How?
00:13:28 --> 00:13:32 I thought he was going to choke and die. It looked
00:13:32 --> 00:13:35 like it for a second there. So we press him again
00:13:35 --> 00:13:38 and we finally get some info out of him. He blames
00:13:38 --> 00:13:40 this whole thing on an Incan or Aztec curse and
00:13:40 --> 00:13:44 says, go to Mexico. No. Yeah, I think Seth's
00:13:44 --> 00:13:46 just on cloud nine right now. He doesn't know
00:13:46 --> 00:13:48 what the hell's going on, but he's enjoying it.
00:13:48 --> 00:13:50 Well, he's finally getting the attention of,
00:13:50 --> 00:13:56 in parentheses, women. And so... Why do I still
00:13:56 --> 00:13:59 feel bad for that zombie? Anyone around his company
00:13:59 --> 00:14:05 we feel bad for. Okay, final scene. I find another
00:14:05 --> 00:14:07 horse of the apocalypse, which I forgot to note
00:14:07 --> 00:14:10 the first one. But there's a lot of cool, like,
00:14:10 --> 00:14:13 supernatural elements to it. this game like side
00:14:13 --> 00:14:16 content wise and one of those is the four horses
00:14:16 --> 00:14:19 of the apocalypse john then heads to the location
00:14:19 --> 00:14:21 riley's charge where west dickens said to find
00:14:21 --> 00:14:24 parts he gets the parts delivers them to west
00:14:24 --> 00:14:27 dickens i also love that west dickens is on all
00:14:27 --> 00:14:31 fours oh my gosh underneath the carriage and
00:14:31 --> 00:14:34 john's just like get out here he's just over
00:14:34 --> 00:14:38 it but west dickens looks ridiculous i mean when
00:14:38 --> 00:14:41 does he not look ridiculous I know. I feel like
00:14:41 --> 00:14:43 they just doubled down, though, in this game.
00:14:44 --> 00:14:46 Probably to no one's surprise, Wes Dickens was
00:14:46 --> 00:14:49 run out of town, as people are blaming him for
00:14:49 --> 00:14:52 all the zombie uprising that's happening. And
00:14:52 --> 00:14:54 he plans to go to Mexico because he's heard things
00:14:54 --> 00:14:57 are calmer there. All roads lead to Mexico. As
00:14:57 --> 00:15:02 long as he can immediately kill Alende and DeSanto,
00:15:02 --> 00:15:05 I'm cool with that. You were so close on both
00:15:05 --> 00:15:09 those names, but incorrect. Alende and DeSanto.
00:15:15 --> 00:15:20 It was fantastic. So that's part one of Undead
00:15:20 --> 00:15:22 Nightmare. I'm sure you can all tell I am enthused
00:15:22 --> 00:15:24 to be talking about this game. I'm having a great
00:15:24 --> 00:15:27 time. How are you feeling? It's a good horror
00:15:27 --> 00:15:30 game, right? It's not too icky. I wouldn't even
00:15:30 --> 00:15:32 say it's a horror game. I think this is just
00:15:32 --> 00:15:38 DLC. What's some fun, absurd 90s horror sitcom
00:15:38 --> 00:15:42 included. Somehow it fits so well. The main game's
00:15:42 --> 00:15:44 interesting because it's kind of like Spaghetti
00:15:44 --> 00:15:45 Western on half of it, but the other half is
00:15:45 --> 00:15:49 really serious and emotional. And somehow it
00:15:49 --> 00:15:51 works. And then somehow this works. Somehow a
00:15:51 --> 00:15:54 zombie apocalypse in the Wild West just works.
00:15:55 --> 00:15:59 It helps that this is Jon's natural state, and
00:15:59 --> 00:16:02 I like seeing him like this. If I had started
00:16:02 --> 00:16:05 with... seeing John here and then seeing him
00:16:05 --> 00:16:07 in Red Dead Redemption, I'm going to be like,
00:16:07 --> 00:16:09 what happened, John? It's refreshing to see how
00:16:09 --> 00:16:14 he should be. Scary Christmas Eve, part two will
00:16:14 --> 00:16:17 be out tomorrow. Thank you for joining us. Hopefully
00:16:17 --> 00:16:20 everyone's having a good Christmas. Good December.
