There Must Be a Name for This | Red Dead Redemption | Part 3

00:00:00 --> 00:00:03 In this episode, did we save her or did we almost
00:00:03 --> 00:00:07 kill her? Is Ricketts drunk? And did we really
00:00:07 --> 00:00:13 do all of that for only two people? Thank you
00:00:13 --> 00:00:15 for coming back for more replay reviews. My name
00:00:15 --> 00:00:17 is Leah. And my name is Kathy. We are two friends
00:00:17 --> 00:00:20 who are here to replay, review, and analyze your
00:00:20 --> 00:00:22 favorite video games. And since Kathy has never
00:00:22 --> 00:00:24 seen the games before, it helps me view them
00:00:24 --> 00:00:27 through her fresh eyes. Almost like I'm discovering
00:00:27 --> 00:00:29 them again for the first time. We hope it will
00:00:29 --> 00:00:38 be a similar experience for you. So let's get
00:00:38 --> 00:00:41 into scene one. John finds Ricketts at a saloon
00:00:41 --> 00:00:44 where he's talking to two men about Javier. One
00:00:44 --> 00:00:47 of the men's sister has been taken by Javier
00:00:47 --> 00:00:51 and his men, it sounds like. But they don't recall
00:00:51 --> 00:00:55 Bill being with him. They head to El Matadero
00:00:55 --> 00:00:58 to find info about the sister. Her name is Luisa.
00:00:58 --> 00:01:02 On the ride, we learn that Luisa is a rebel and
00:01:02 --> 00:01:05 is close to the rebel leader, Abraham Reyes.
00:01:06 --> 00:01:08 Ricketts says she's young and pretty, which is
00:01:08 --> 00:01:13 apparently enough reason for Allende. Again,
00:01:13 --> 00:01:16 that's how John says it. It's hard. I barely
00:01:16 --> 00:01:19 took Spanish, but it's hard for me to not want
00:01:19 --> 00:01:24 to say Allende. I can barely say Abraham in its
00:01:24 --> 00:01:27 correct way. I know. I say the words Abraham,
00:01:28 --> 00:01:30 but so. I'm sure we'll flip it out. I mean, by
00:01:30 --> 00:01:33 no means are we Spanish experts. By no means.
00:01:33 --> 00:01:36 Did I want to take it in high school? No. Did
00:01:36 --> 00:01:41 I have to? Yes. Was I bad at it? Also, yes. But
00:01:41 --> 00:01:46 some things are still with me. Anyway, so Allende
00:01:46 --> 00:01:49 sounds like he's kind of a creep. Kind of a perv.
00:01:50 --> 00:01:54 there's one part where it's um the spanish speaker
00:01:54 --> 00:01:58 ricketts and john and pretty much this entire
00:01:58 --> 00:02:00 game up through here whenever they're speaking
00:02:00 --> 00:02:03 spanish we get no translation and then here i
00:02:03 --> 00:02:05 feel like maybe it's a moment for the players
00:02:05 --> 00:02:07 but john's like yeah i got it when ricketts is
00:02:07 --> 00:02:10 trying to translate but it's that part was obvious
00:02:10 --> 00:02:13 enough so i feel like that's exactly how we feel
00:02:13 --> 00:02:16 is like this part we got it but everything else
00:02:16 --> 00:02:19 why didn't you give us any context clues I like
00:02:19 --> 00:02:23 it just because it seems like it's John's perspective.
00:02:24 --> 00:02:26 Like he pipes in when he knows something, which
00:02:26 --> 00:02:29 is pretty obvious that most people would probably
00:02:29 --> 00:02:32 know it, even just by context. But when there's
00:02:32 --> 00:02:35 full conversations, yeah, we get Spanish subtitles,
00:02:35 --> 00:02:39 but not English translation. And so I think that's
00:02:39 --> 00:02:42 just indicating to us what John is understanding.
00:02:43 --> 00:02:44 I mean, I'm fine with that. I think it's just
00:02:44 --> 00:02:47 hilarious too when John's like, yeah, I got it.
00:02:47 --> 00:02:50 Yeah. He's like, I'm stupid, but I'm not that
00:02:50 --> 00:02:57 stupid. Come on. Okay, but Kathy, we send this
00:02:57 --> 00:03:00 butcher, Carlos, to distract two guards from
00:03:00 --> 00:03:03 the entrance of the cave, right? But not five
00:03:03 --> 00:03:06 seconds later, we're in a massive shootout with
00:03:06 --> 00:03:08 the whole army. I'm like, what was the point
00:03:08 --> 00:03:12 of distracting the guards? Yeah. Literally no
00:03:12 --> 00:03:14 point for Carlos to be in this game. Sorry, bud.
00:03:15 --> 00:03:17 Maybe Carlos was like the nephew of the game
00:03:17 --> 00:03:19 developer and they had to give him something
00:03:19 --> 00:03:23 to do. Oh, what's your next note? About blowing
00:03:23 --> 00:03:29 open the door. Yeah. What's up with that? That's
00:03:29 --> 00:03:32 really what the question is. You're trying to
00:03:32 --> 00:03:35 be subtle, and then yet you blow up this entire
00:03:35 --> 00:03:37 door when you could easily kick it open. And
00:03:37 --> 00:03:39 the thing is that you could have killed everyone
00:03:39 --> 00:03:41 there. If it was just like a cave, you don't
00:03:41 --> 00:03:43 know what's in there, that entire thing could
00:03:43 --> 00:03:46 have collapsed and killed Louisa. I'm so glad
00:03:46 --> 00:03:49 you reacted to this the same way I did. Because
00:03:49 --> 00:03:52 I was, okay, do you really need dynamite to open
00:03:52 --> 00:03:55 that cell? Can you not shoot the lock? How strong
00:03:55 --> 00:03:57 could they have possibly built this thing? And
00:03:57 --> 00:04:01 then the best part. So giant explosion to get
00:04:01 --> 00:04:06 this one handmade cell door in a cave open. And
00:04:06 --> 00:04:09 then Ricketts comes out with Louisa flung over
00:04:09 --> 00:04:12 his shoulder and says, poor girl's barely alive.
00:04:12 --> 00:04:15 Well, maybe it's because you used dynamite three
00:04:15 --> 00:04:18 feet away from her. But that's just my thought.
00:04:19 --> 00:04:22 They do save her. They do not kill her accidentally
00:04:22 --> 00:04:25 by using dynamite. And she says she doesn't think
00:04:25 --> 00:04:28 Javier was with the men who captured her, but
00:04:28 --> 00:04:30 she remembers the name from prison. She says
00:04:30 --> 00:04:35 bad people spoke of him. Sometime later, John
00:04:35 --> 00:04:38 finds Landon playing poker at the saloon. He's
00:04:38 --> 00:04:40 forced to join the game, and then they get accused
00:04:40 --> 00:04:44 of cheating by Moeller, the German guy. Things
00:04:44 --> 00:04:51 escalate, and then our favorite moment. So we're
00:04:51 --> 00:04:55 watching. And you go, isn't this like a Mexican
00:04:55 --> 00:04:57 standoff or something? And you're like, hold
00:04:57 --> 00:05:00 on, hold on, hold on. Wait, wait, wait, hold
00:05:00 --> 00:05:03 on. And then Moeller goes, there must be a name
00:05:03 --> 00:05:08 for this. That joke is so underrated. It's right
00:05:08 --> 00:05:11 up there for me with, I don't like women, partner.
00:05:13 --> 00:05:17 This one is too good. Well, after the Mexican
00:05:17 --> 00:05:20 standoff. John is challenged to a duel. He wins.
00:05:20 --> 00:05:22 I didn't even try to just disarm Muller. I'm
00:05:22 --> 00:05:26 like, you know what? You're a bit excessive.
00:05:27 --> 00:05:32 You want it to be done. I don't, you know, he
00:05:32 --> 00:05:36 asked for it. Someone else then takes a woman
00:05:36 --> 00:05:40 hostage in order to force John to duel him. Okay,
00:05:40 --> 00:05:44 he wins. And then a town -wide shootout begins.
00:05:45 --> 00:05:47 What's up with all this shooting? Do they have
00:05:47 --> 00:05:51 excess ammo to use? Right, they're in a war.
00:05:52 --> 00:05:55 Why are they wasting bullets like this? Why won't
00:05:55 --> 00:05:57 you save your strength against the common enemy
00:05:57 --> 00:06:01 here? Why? This is so unnecessary. Next, John
00:06:01 --> 00:06:05 goes looking for Allende, but finds Captain DeSanta,
00:06:05 --> 00:06:08 who is interesting. I immediately don't like
00:06:08 --> 00:06:11 him. And I don't like how he jokes around. Immediately,
00:06:11 --> 00:06:15 I don't trust him, nor do I like him. So he says
00:06:15 --> 00:06:17 that Allende is trying to keep the people alive
00:06:17 --> 00:06:21 and preserve order. We'll see. John tells him
00:06:21 --> 00:06:23 who he's been trying to find, and DeSantis says
00:06:23 --> 00:06:25 that they're probably with the rebels, again,
00:06:26 --> 00:06:29 led by Reyes. They don't know where he is, but
00:06:29 --> 00:06:31 they're trying to lure him into a trap, so John
00:06:31 --> 00:06:34 joins them. So there's some conversation about
00:06:34 --> 00:06:38 how John needs to find Bill, but he's also not
00:06:38 --> 00:06:42 paying to do it. What incentive does John have?
00:06:43 --> 00:06:48 to do this for for free i guess i'm also assuming
00:06:48 --> 00:06:51 that he did some jail time after everything that
00:06:51 --> 00:06:55 went wrong but i what do you think do we i guess
00:06:55 --> 00:06:59 do we know enough to guess why he's he's doing
00:06:59 --> 00:07:02 this for free we've had references that he's
00:07:02 --> 00:07:04 here against his will and in a couple scenes
00:07:04 --> 00:07:09 we'll learn more exactly why that is I think
00:07:09 --> 00:07:12 it's when he's riding with Espinoza, whatever
00:07:12 --> 00:07:15 that guy's name is, in a few scenes. But basically,
00:07:15 --> 00:07:18 the government kidnapped his wife and son and
00:07:18 --> 00:07:21 is using them as leverage to force him to do
00:07:21 --> 00:07:25 this. Okay. I didn't realize it was because they
00:07:25 --> 00:07:28 were kidnapped. The plan is to escort a train
00:07:28 --> 00:07:31 meant to look like a supply train. They assume
00:07:31 --> 00:07:33 the rebels will attack it, and they do. They
00:07:33 --> 00:07:35 fight them off, and then sometime later, the
00:07:35 --> 00:07:38 rebels launch another attack. And then they steal
00:07:38 --> 00:07:41 the train. John is enlisted, and only John is
00:07:41 --> 00:07:43 enlisted, to stop the train before it crosses
00:07:43 --> 00:07:47 the bridge. This entire scene, the fight scene,
00:07:47 --> 00:07:50 John's pretty much doing it all by himself. And
00:07:50 --> 00:07:53 it also shows how useless DeSanta is. Mm -hmm.
00:07:54 --> 00:07:57 And again, John's just being... I mean, the government's
00:07:57 --> 00:08:00 manipulated him into doing this, but now the
00:08:00 --> 00:08:02 Mexican army's manipulating him into doing things
00:08:02 --> 00:08:05 because if he doesn't help them, they're not
00:08:05 --> 00:08:07 going to give him information. And he has to
00:08:07 --> 00:08:12 go with whatever he has at the moment to ensure
00:08:12 --> 00:08:15 his family stays alive. So it's kind of, you
00:08:15 --> 00:08:18 can start to understand it, but it's still frustrating.
00:08:19 --> 00:08:25 But also, who blew up the bridge? Okay, so it's
00:08:25 --> 00:08:28 either the rebels or it's either the Santa's
00:08:28 --> 00:08:32 people making a mistake. I don't know. But maybe
00:08:32 --> 00:08:34 there's a third group of people out there that
00:08:34 --> 00:08:37 are screwing with both parties. Because the rebels
00:08:37 --> 00:08:39 are stealing it because they think it's supplies,
00:08:39 --> 00:08:41 right? Mm -hmm. So they wouldn't want to destroy
00:08:41 --> 00:08:45 it. John was sent to stop it before it crosses
00:08:45 --> 00:08:47 the bridge. Because I think if it crosses the
00:08:47 --> 00:08:49 bridge, then the rebels are free. They have their
00:08:49 --> 00:08:52 supplies. But why would they need to stop the
00:08:52 --> 00:08:54 train if they rigged it to explode? I don't know.
00:08:55 --> 00:08:58 I don't know either. Burning question. Maybe
00:08:58 --> 00:09:00 we'll ask Reddit. We didn't really do any Reddits
00:09:00 --> 00:09:03 last year. We were too busy. We were dying. This
00:09:03 --> 00:09:06 year... We will have time. And again, you have
00:09:06 --> 00:09:09 diapers behind you. Oh, that's just an empty
00:09:09 --> 00:09:15 box. You always have diapers behind you. Yes.
00:09:16 --> 00:09:19 What was that? Season one? Season two? Season
00:09:19 --> 00:09:20 one or season... I think it was like... season
00:09:20 --> 00:09:24 one i think i had like six boxes of diapers just
00:09:24 --> 00:09:27 stacked up ready for baby showers this is that
00:09:27 --> 00:09:30 empty box of diapers it's just i'm using it for
00:09:30 --> 00:09:32 my recycling but i love how you notice the diapers
00:09:32 --> 00:09:37 i'm just like wait i'm getting deja vu where
00:09:37 --> 00:09:39 were we okay scene three are you ready for that
00:09:39 --> 00:09:43 okay sometime later again john finds ricketts
00:09:43 --> 00:09:47 again in the saloon again Landon questions John,
00:09:47 --> 00:09:50 who reveals he's tried to live a better life
00:09:50 --> 00:09:53 since the gang left him after being shot. I tried
00:09:53 --> 00:09:57 to go straight. I did. I left the gang after
00:09:57 --> 00:10:00 the gang left me. Left me to die after I'd been
00:10:00 --> 00:10:05 shot. Ain't all gone crazy anyhow. Our old leader?
00:10:06 --> 00:10:09 Fellow you probably heard of. Anyway, he more
00:10:09 --> 00:10:11 or less lost his mind, went and shot a bunch
00:10:11 --> 00:10:15 of people unfair like. I got shot in a robbery.
00:10:16 --> 00:10:19 They left me, and I left them. So we got some
00:10:19 --> 00:10:22 more background on kind of what went down. Just
00:10:22 --> 00:10:25 to clarify, he was left behind when he got shot,
00:10:26 --> 00:10:29 and then in the start of the game, he was also
00:10:29 --> 00:10:31 shot and left behind. So did Bill do that twice?
00:10:32 --> 00:10:34 John is shot during a robbery. We don't know
00:10:34 --> 00:10:37 by who, by what side. We just know that basically
00:10:37 --> 00:10:40 they left him for dead. They cut him as dead
00:10:40 --> 00:10:42 weight. Man, this man has been through it twice.
00:10:44 --> 00:10:46 Throughout this conversation, we both kind of
00:10:46 --> 00:10:50 felt like Ricketts is drunk a bit. Like he's
00:10:50 --> 00:10:54 being kind of weird. He, yeah. Okay. So they're
00:10:54 --> 00:10:56 talking and getting drunk. And then Louisa runs
00:10:56 --> 00:10:59 in and asks them to help save prisoners who are
00:10:59 --> 00:11:02 about to be executed without a trial. We managed
00:11:02 --> 00:11:05 to hijack the prisoner wagon and drive it safely
00:11:05 --> 00:11:07 to America where we released them. But do you
00:11:07 --> 00:11:09 have anything before we get there? I think this
00:11:09 --> 00:11:12 is just proving DeSanta wrong. So earlier back
00:11:12 --> 00:11:14 in, I think it was like scene one, when they're
00:11:14 --> 00:11:18 writing to stop the train, DeSanta says that,
00:11:18 --> 00:11:21 well, in Mexico, we have a whole justice system.
00:11:21 --> 00:11:23 And immediately you cut to the scene where it's
00:11:23 --> 00:11:28 like, no, you don't. Speaking of DeSanta, as
00:11:28 --> 00:11:33 they're writing to save the prisoners, Ricketts
00:11:33 --> 00:11:35 gets kind of mad at John for his involvement
00:11:35 --> 00:11:38 with DeSanta. But John's reaction is basically
00:11:38 --> 00:11:42 like, I don't want to be here. If you could help
00:11:42 --> 00:11:44 me more, I wouldn't need to, you know, talk to
00:11:44 --> 00:11:47 this guy. This is where John starts to get frustrated
00:11:47 --> 00:11:50 because now he's in the middle. Both sides like
00:11:50 --> 00:11:53 him. Both sides hate him. And he's like, I just
00:11:53 --> 00:11:56 want to go home. I feel for John because I know
00:11:56 --> 00:11:59 he needs the information. But my frustration
00:11:59 --> 00:12:02 is if you know this person isn't really trustworthy,
00:12:02 --> 00:12:06 why? believe him like i know you're desperate
00:12:06 --> 00:12:09 but we don't know just ain't enough yet but the
00:12:09 --> 00:12:12 more we know him the more john needs to start
00:12:12 --> 00:12:15 thinking critically and thinking that some people
00:12:15 --> 00:12:18 might have bad intention and feed me bad information
00:12:18 --> 00:12:22 i know i want to see john being a bit more intimidating
00:12:22 --> 00:12:26 because we know he has it in him okay but yes
00:12:26 --> 00:12:29 so we do a lot of work to free these prisoners
00:12:29 --> 00:12:32 and there was at least two prison wagons maybe
00:12:32 --> 00:12:34 three But we just take one across the river and
00:12:34 --> 00:12:38 there's two prisoners in it. What happened to
00:12:38 --> 00:12:40 the other wagon? Did we really do all of this
00:12:40 --> 00:12:44 for only two people? Apparently. I don't get
00:12:44 --> 00:12:47 it. Well, it sounds like we'll be parting ways
00:12:47 --> 00:12:50 with Ricketts. He tells John to talk to Louisa
00:12:50 --> 00:12:53 and that she can help him because she's well
00:12:53 --> 00:12:56 connected. John rides to her family's house where
00:12:56 --> 00:12:58 they're getting ready to leave, except for Louisa.
00:12:58 --> 00:13:01 She wants to stay and fight. Her parents and
00:13:01 --> 00:13:03 brother are heading to the hills and her sister
00:13:03 --> 00:13:06 is being sent to the Yucatan. And Louisa asks
00:13:06 --> 00:13:09 John to take her to the docks. Too much work.
00:13:09 --> 00:13:10 She could have just gone to the docks herself.
00:13:11 --> 00:13:13 And how many blankets do they need to pack? Right?
00:13:14 --> 00:13:16 There is something. I do want to go back. I think
00:13:16 --> 00:13:20 I recorded the timestamp around 5420 where it
00:13:20 --> 00:13:22 was just me going like, why don't you just run
00:13:22 --> 00:13:25 them over when John's... On the wagon. And then
00:13:25 --> 00:13:29 immediately, we do see that this guy's, like,
00:13:29 --> 00:13:35 flying after you run him over. Yeah. So good.
00:13:35 --> 00:13:38 I love the ragdoll physics in this game. It's
00:13:38 --> 00:13:41 so entertaining. Well, after a bumpy ride, we
00:13:41 --> 00:13:44 do get Miranda to safety, and then John heads
00:13:44 --> 00:13:46 back to Escalera to see DeSanta again, who's
00:13:46 --> 00:13:51 listening to Allende rant. John just sneaks a
00:13:51 --> 00:13:53 little introduction in there. When questioning
00:13:53 --> 00:13:56 him about Javier, he says the same thing, that
00:13:56 --> 00:13:58 he's the type of man that would join up with
00:13:58 --> 00:14:01 Reyes. While watching the gameplay, I wanted
00:14:01 --> 00:14:03 people to know how much we enjoyed watching the
00:14:03 --> 00:14:06 Santa cower while he was getting yelled at. You
00:14:06 --> 00:14:10 just like him being put in his place. Satisfying.
00:14:11 --> 00:14:13 So, Alinda says he'll help locate Bill and Javier,
00:14:13 --> 00:14:16 but tells John he has to help him out first.
00:14:16 --> 00:14:20 John is sent with the Santa to help clear out
00:14:20 --> 00:14:23 some rebels. and then burn the town they're staying
00:14:23 --> 00:14:26 in. I do have a question here. Do you think that
00:14:26 --> 00:14:28 they really needed John's help? Because John
00:14:28 --> 00:14:32 should have, in my opinion, been like, I'll help
00:14:32 --> 00:14:34 you, but you need to give me a little bit of
00:14:34 --> 00:14:37 information first. John is just going with whatever
00:14:37 --> 00:14:39 they say, and I think that really is frustrating
00:14:39 --> 00:14:42 for me because, come on, give him a small piece
00:14:42 --> 00:14:45 or some kind of incentive for him to keep doing
00:14:45 --> 00:14:48 your dirty work. Well, also, if Javier's a rebel,
00:14:48 --> 00:14:54 why not just... deliver him to john but anyway
00:14:54 --> 00:14:57 so they burn down the town and then soldiers
00:14:57 --> 00:15:01 take women for allende uh just a bonus they say
00:15:01 --> 00:15:09 no i don't like this i don't either uh and then
00:15:09 --> 00:15:13 i noticed as the scene fades out it shows the
00:15:13 --> 00:15:16 church on fire and it shows like the cross with
00:15:16 --> 00:15:17 flames behind it And I feel like that's just
00:15:17 --> 00:15:20 pretty good symbolism that I've missed until
00:15:20 --> 00:15:23 this point. I interpret that as that the one
00:15:23 --> 00:15:27 thing that unites everyone together, like that
00:15:27 --> 00:15:30 they see not necessarily power, but more authority
00:15:30 --> 00:15:33 and things they believe in is the church. And
00:15:33 --> 00:15:35 by destroying that, I feel like the symbolism
00:15:35 --> 00:15:39 is that now the colonel is the religion. Like
00:15:39 --> 00:15:43 he's the top dog kind of situation. Yeah, I agree.
00:15:43 --> 00:15:46 It's like he's playing God. And so there's a
00:15:46 --> 00:15:48 symbolism there. And then there's also the symbolism
00:15:48 --> 00:15:51 with John. He set it on fire. So it's symbolism
00:15:51 --> 00:15:55 of his part that he's now playing in it. Yeah,
00:15:55 --> 00:15:57 he's just doing this to fulfill his duties, get
00:15:57 --> 00:15:59 his family back. But he's still doing some bad
00:15:59 --> 00:16:05 things. He's not innocent. Moving on to our fourth
00:16:05 --> 00:16:08 scene. In Escalera, John is approached by DeSanta
00:16:08 --> 00:16:11 and some soldiers. He's asked to ride with them
00:16:11 --> 00:16:14 and says they've been betrayed. He assures John
00:16:14 --> 00:16:18 that they'll find the men you seek. So it sounds
00:16:18 --> 00:16:20 like the rebels have taken over an abandoned
00:16:20 --> 00:16:23 town, and they cannot be allowed to establish
00:16:23 --> 00:16:26 a stronghold, so they've been commanded to kill
00:16:26 --> 00:16:29 them all. Once there, a battle breaks out, ending
00:16:29 --> 00:16:33 with the rebels being defeated. Notes? My next
00:16:33 --> 00:16:35 note is about pleasure doing business with you
00:16:35 --> 00:16:40 boys. I can't remember when that happened. I
00:16:40 --> 00:16:44 don't either. Okay, ignore me. Keep going, keep
00:16:44 --> 00:16:47 going. So maybe it'll come back to you. But DeSantis
00:16:47 --> 00:16:50 says to John that they'll talk once the army
00:16:50 --> 00:16:52 gets back to Escalera. John replies, next time
00:16:52 --> 00:16:54 I see you, you better have some answers, Captain.
00:16:54 --> 00:16:57 So he's getting impatient now, which I'm like,
00:16:57 --> 00:17:01 finally, John, thank you. He lets him have this
00:17:01 --> 00:17:03 one, but kind of threatens him a little bit.
00:17:04 --> 00:17:06 John then rides to Louisa's house, which has
00:17:06 --> 00:17:09 been burned down, and she's just sitting on the
00:17:09 --> 00:17:13 hot coals. But she's beside herself because Reyes
00:17:13 --> 00:17:16 has been captured. She says he was on his way
00:17:16 --> 00:17:19 to meet her at a romantic spot and was ambushed.
00:17:19 --> 00:17:22 She says, in her hearts, we are married already.
00:17:23 --> 00:17:27 This is also when she gets pretty darn dramatic.
00:17:27 --> 00:17:31 She's like, I wait for my country. And about
00:17:31 --> 00:17:35 everything. And I was like, calm down, calm down.
00:17:35 --> 00:17:39 But I can see her just being distressed that.
00:17:39 --> 00:17:42 Of course she falls for the top dog leading the
00:17:42 --> 00:17:47 revolution and so forth. She's very dramatic
00:17:47 --> 00:17:50 and very much wants to be a big part of this.
00:17:51 --> 00:17:54 She's young, so it makes sense for her character.
00:17:55 --> 00:17:57 And I like how you can sort of see John picking
00:17:57 --> 00:17:59 up on the same thing we're picking up on. He
00:17:59 --> 00:18:02 doesn't really respond. He just nods his head,
00:18:02 --> 00:18:04 you know, and then it's like, well, let's go
00:18:04 --> 00:18:08 get him. He understands. Does John realize the
00:18:08 --> 00:18:11 dangers he's putting himself in by helping both
00:18:11 --> 00:18:16 the rebels and DeSanta's group? I don't know.
00:18:16 --> 00:18:20 I don't think he's taking the time to think about
00:18:20 --> 00:18:23 that. Though he should be. And I also think he's
00:18:23 --> 00:18:27 just trying to be a better person still. And
00:18:27 --> 00:18:31 so helping Luisa is part of that. I mean, who's
00:18:31 --> 00:18:35 just going to leave a sad, weeping woman? on
00:18:35 --> 00:18:39 a pile of burned down house. Santa would have
00:18:39 --> 00:18:41 left her. You'd have to be pretty heartless to
00:18:41 --> 00:18:45 do that. And John's not heartless. They set out
00:18:45 --> 00:18:48 to rescue him. John sneaks into the prison just
00:18:48 --> 00:18:50 in time to save Abraham from being executed.
00:18:52 --> 00:18:55 Reyes is immediately not what we expect after
00:18:55 --> 00:19:02 all the praise Louisa has been giving him. Am
00:19:02 --> 00:19:07 I wrong? You're not wrong. We, considering how
00:19:07 --> 00:19:11 we know he's one of the leaders, and we just
00:19:11 --> 00:19:14 hear Louisa praise him, which I know she's a
00:19:14 --> 00:19:16 bit dramatic, but still, we're like, high hopes.
00:19:17 --> 00:19:20 And you see this man, which we pretty much, at
00:19:20 --> 00:19:26 one point, falls off the horse. We'll get there.
00:19:26 --> 00:19:29 But yeah, he doesn't even remember her name.
00:19:29 --> 00:19:34 He keeps calling her Laura. Anyway, moving on
00:19:34 --> 00:19:37 to the ragdoll off the horse. So there's two
00:19:37 --> 00:19:40 horses in this prison, but apparently Reyes cannot
00:19:40 --> 00:19:43 ride in his current state, even though he's running
00:19:43 --> 00:19:47 and walking. And he hops. He can hop onto a horse.
00:19:48 --> 00:19:50 Yeah, so he jumps onto the back of John's horse.
00:19:50 --> 00:19:55 We're galloping full speed. I don't know if he
00:19:55 --> 00:19:59 gets shot. Or what happened, but he just, like,
00:20:00 --> 00:20:02 there's maybe a brief T -pose in there. And then
00:20:02 --> 00:20:06 he just backflips off the horse. And I'm like,
00:20:06 --> 00:20:08 what happened? So I stop, and I look back, and
00:20:08 --> 00:20:13 he's just scurrying behind me to try to catch
00:20:13 --> 00:20:16 up and jumps back off the horse. That was too
00:20:16 --> 00:20:18 funny. This is why people need to watch the video
00:20:18 --> 00:20:20 episodes, because you'll be able to see it. I'll
00:20:20 --> 00:20:24 add it in there. He's also very dramatic saying
00:20:24 --> 00:20:26 like, oh, they're going to write songs about
00:20:26 --> 00:20:30 how I fought off a hundred of his men with my
00:20:30 --> 00:20:33 bare hands. But you needed saving, dude. You
00:20:33 --> 00:20:35 could have died and no one would have cared.
00:20:35 --> 00:20:38 Right? And my favorite thing is John's response.
00:20:38 --> 00:20:40 He says, all you've done is get on the back of
00:20:40 --> 00:20:43 this horse, my friend, and you barely managed
00:20:43 --> 00:20:47 that. And the fact that he fell off the horse
00:20:47 --> 00:20:51 in my gameplay just makes that line. pristine.
00:20:51 --> 00:20:56 It's so good. I think the reason why he and Louisa
00:20:56 --> 00:21:00 get along so well is that they both are super
00:21:00 --> 00:21:03 dramatic. Very dramatic, very head in the clouds
00:21:03 --> 00:21:07 kind of people. But he says, I will help you
00:21:07 --> 00:21:09 find those men and in return you will win a people
00:21:09 --> 00:21:12 her freedom. Then honestly, I think John could
00:21:12 --> 00:21:15 care less. And then he calls her Laura again.
00:21:15 --> 00:21:20 In song this time though. John rides back to
00:21:20 --> 00:21:22 Escalero the next day to hopefully get some answers
00:21:22 --> 00:21:25 out of DeSanta. When he arrives, DeSanta and
00:21:25 --> 00:21:27 his waiter friend, which is what he's referred
00:21:27 --> 00:21:29 to in this game. He doesn't have a name as far
00:21:29 --> 00:21:33 as I know. They're taking women to Allende. John's
00:21:33 --> 00:21:36 not too happy about it. Which feels good. At
00:21:36 --> 00:21:38 least one character is annoyed at this, right?
00:21:38 --> 00:21:41 Mm -hmm. They inform John. That they'll tell
00:21:41 --> 00:21:44 him where Javier is if he does a dangerous mission
00:21:44 --> 00:21:47 for them. Which, pause, didn't they say that
00:21:47 --> 00:21:49 they were already going to give him some, like,
00:21:49 --> 00:21:53 tips or whatnot? Like, explanations? So why are
00:21:53 --> 00:21:55 you, again, they're like, we'll tell you after
00:21:55 --> 00:21:57 you finish this. And then he does what he needs
00:21:57 --> 00:21:59 to do. John, come on. I thought you were done
00:21:59 --> 00:22:01 with this. I thought you were laying down the
00:22:01 --> 00:22:04 law. I feel like he spent Mexico a week and got
00:22:04 --> 00:22:07 nowhere. Why are they Adelante throwing up like
00:22:07 --> 00:22:14 that? Yeah. Yeah. This is why they need John
00:22:14 --> 00:22:17 to do things, because Zelenda is just getting
00:22:17 --> 00:22:20 drunk. Yeah, which, at this point, I do have
00:22:20 --> 00:22:23 some questions here about John and his moral
00:22:23 --> 00:22:26 compass and his ethics. Earlier, when we first
00:22:26 --> 00:22:29 meet him and DeSanta and their writing, he's
00:22:29 --> 00:22:31 pretty much sticking up for the rebels. Kind
00:22:31 --> 00:22:34 of pisses DeSanta off. Yet, when it comes, push
00:22:34 --> 00:22:36 comes to shove, he doesn't care about females
00:22:36 --> 00:22:39 getting raped. I thought... John would have more
00:22:39 --> 00:22:41 ethics and more of a moral compass because he
00:22:41 --> 00:22:45 like yeah he's done things wrong but he's a he's
00:22:45 --> 00:22:47 a new person now he's trying to fix what he's
00:22:47 --> 00:22:51 done wrong go back to his wife yet I'm confused
00:22:51 --> 00:22:53 like now he doesn't care about those I think
00:22:53 --> 00:22:56 he does care why didn't he do anything about
00:22:56 --> 00:22:59 those two girls or three getting dragged what
00:22:59 --> 00:23:02 can he do when they were just a bonus I mean
00:23:02 --> 00:23:05 he commented about that here he's like more loyal
00:23:05 --> 00:23:08 followers you know sarcastically So he's sort
00:23:08 --> 00:23:12 of saying things to express his displeasure at
00:23:12 --> 00:23:15 what they're doing. But what can he do? They're
00:23:15 --> 00:23:18 at their headquarters. So I don't think he approves
00:23:18 --> 00:23:22 of it. Okay. If that makes you feel better. It
00:23:22 --> 00:23:25 does make me feel a bit better, but I feel like
00:23:25 --> 00:23:30 John isn't doing enough to... I get his hands
00:23:30 --> 00:23:33 are tied, though. I was watching this game. I'm
00:23:33 --> 00:23:35 frustrated. Everything John has been doing this
00:23:35 --> 00:23:41 entire... episode has been irritating me there's
00:23:41 --> 00:23:44 a lot of people who don't love the mexico section
00:23:44 --> 00:23:50 of this game so you're not alone okay um but
00:23:50 --> 00:23:52 of course they are attacked by rebels while making
00:23:52 --> 00:23:54 the ammunition delivery they continue on the
00:23:54 --> 00:23:58 road on their route and i think it's s but did
00:23:58 --> 00:24:00 you write the name down i didn't espinosa yeah
00:24:00 --> 00:24:04 espinosa is the uh the general or the whatever
00:24:04 --> 00:24:07 that he's writing with And he says, there's something
00:24:07 --> 00:24:11 wrong. I feel it. John says, maybe you just need
00:24:11 --> 00:24:15 to take a piss or something. Come on, John, why
00:24:15 --> 00:24:17 not trust this guy? Of all the people you should
00:24:17 --> 00:24:19 trust. Especially after they've already been
00:24:19 --> 00:24:23 attacked once. Yeah. John just can't help with
00:24:23 --> 00:24:27 the witty one -liner. He just has to do it. Anyway,
00:24:27 --> 00:24:29 they survive the attacks and get the ammo to
00:24:29 --> 00:24:32 Chuparosa. And from there, board the train to
00:24:32 --> 00:24:35 complete the delivery. Lots of shooting. Lots
00:24:35 --> 00:24:38 of rebels jumping awkwardly and glitching across
00:24:38 --> 00:24:41 the trains. And then after reaching the destination,
00:24:42 --> 00:24:45 John says, I don't think DeSanta expected us
00:24:45 --> 00:24:47 to come back from this. So they basically sent
00:24:47 --> 00:24:53 John and Espinosa on a suicide mission. Why do
00:24:53 --> 00:24:57 they still give DeSanta the benefit of the doubt?
00:24:57 --> 00:25:00 Like, Espinosa and John should know better than
00:25:00 --> 00:25:04 to trust DeSanta at this point. I think this
00:25:04 --> 00:25:08 is the clincher. This is where the trust is completely
00:25:08 --> 00:25:11 broken. I love Espinosa saying, do you want to
00:25:11 --> 00:25:13 kill him or should I? Doesn't Captain Espinosa
00:25:13 --> 00:25:16 also call DeSanta a pathetic little boy who chases
00:25:16 --> 00:25:21 after barmen? Yeah. He hates the guy so much.
00:25:21 --> 00:25:25 Yeah. But John's response to, like, do you want
00:25:25 --> 00:25:29 to kill him or should I? Is, I need him alive.
00:25:29 --> 00:25:31 Like, he knows he has information that he's holding
00:25:31 --> 00:25:34 from John. He's just trying to figure out how
00:25:34 --> 00:25:36 to get that out of him. And I think this is the
00:25:36 --> 00:25:39 point where he realizes doing favors for him
00:25:39 --> 00:25:42 is not getting him that. I don't know when this
00:25:42 --> 00:25:44 takes place, but I had a random note saying,
00:25:44 --> 00:25:49 DeSanta obviously has mommy issues. I don't know
00:25:49 --> 00:25:55 where that is applied, but... He's got a lot
00:25:55 --> 00:25:58 of issues. Yeah. Didn't he say, like, my dad
00:25:58 --> 00:26:01 beat me and called me a girl? And John's like,
00:26:01 --> 00:26:04 that explains a lot. I think there was a comment
00:26:04 --> 00:26:06 about that where DeSantis is saying that women
00:26:06 --> 00:26:08 are frustrating or something like that, like
00:26:08 --> 00:26:12 my mom or something. Yeah, it was like two contradicting
00:26:12 --> 00:26:13 statements. Like, this is something positive,
00:26:14 --> 00:26:15 like my mom. Something negative, like my mom.
00:26:16 --> 00:26:19 It's like, okay, I think you're just spewing
00:26:19 --> 00:26:22 shit out of your mouth. Maybe that's why he likes
00:26:22 --> 00:26:28 barmen. But there's only the one bar. man that
00:26:28 --> 00:26:31 we see, but they act like there's hundreds of
00:26:31 --> 00:26:35 them. So, as discussed, John is running out of
00:26:35 --> 00:26:38 patience, and he returns to Escalera, and one
00:26:38 --> 00:26:40 day tells him Bill and Javier have been captured
00:26:40 --> 00:26:44 in Chuparosa. He sends DeSanta with him to retrieve
00:26:44 --> 00:26:47 them. On the way to Chuparosa, this is where
00:26:47 --> 00:26:50 they have that conversation we were just discussing,
00:26:50 --> 00:26:53 John will ask how they found them, and DeSanta
00:26:53 --> 00:26:56 responds, all rats must come out of their holes
00:26:56 --> 00:27:00 eventually. So kind of, like, not really a direct
00:27:00 --> 00:27:04 answer. Mm -hmm. They reach Chuparosa. DeSantis
00:27:04 --> 00:27:06 says they're being held in the church, and John
00:27:06 --> 00:27:10 heads in. Turns out it's a setup. John gets knocked
00:27:10 --> 00:27:13 out. Quickly after, he comes to outside and is
00:27:13 --> 00:27:16 about to be executed, but is saved last second
00:27:16 --> 00:27:19 by Reyes. So maybe it's good that he's doing
00:27:19 --> 00:27:21 all these side missions so someone could save
00:27:21 --> 00:27:26 his butt when the time comes. Right. I just...
00:27:26 --> 00:27:29 Okay. I was so frustrated with John because like
00:27:29 --> 00:27:31 you knew something was wrong. Espinosa warned
00:27:31 --> 00:27:34 you something was wrong. Yet you still, I get
00:27:34 --> 00:27:37 you're desperate for information, but man, don't
00:27:37 --> 00:27:39 you have a sixth sense? Like where's your gut
00:27:39 --> 00:27:42 intuition? So I'm not surprised that he gets
00:27:42 --> 00:27:45 betrayed by DeSanta and nearly dies a third time.
00:27:46 --> 00:27:49 I agree. I mean, yeah, the lure of they're in
00:27:49 --> 00:27:54 there is pretty strong. So I get it, but. He
00:27:54 --> 00:27:56 could have been a little more cautious about
00:27:56 --> 00:28:00 his approach. Okay, now I'm going to break your
00:28:00 --> 00:28:03 brain. So he's saved by Reyes, right? And you
00:28:03 --> 00:28:06 might be asking, how did he know? How is he here
00:28:06 --> 00:28:11 just in time to save John? Let me show you if
00:28:11 --> 00:28:14 we go back a few minutes to around an hour 46.
00:28:15 --> 00:28:17 Because the last we heard about Reyes, he was
00:28:17 --> 00:28:21 on a boat with Louisa to somewhere. So let me
00:28:21 --> 00:28:25 show you this. Look at this. Who's this, Kathy?
00:28:26 --> 00:28:32 Wait. Okay, let's see if John acknowledges him.
00:28:32 --> 00:28:37 What? Do you think John sees him? Wait, wait.
00:28:37 --> 00:28:39 Does John look over to his left? Okay, for our
00:28:39 --> 00:28:46 listeners, Reyes is in Allende's villa. How did
00:28:46 --> 00:28:48 - Just chilling out there. So they must not know
00:28:48 --> 00:28:51 what he looks like. Because last we knew, they
00:28:51 --> 00:28:53 were still trying to lure him out in the open.
00:28:53 --> 00:28:56 Okay. So he's just sitting here watching this
00:28:56 --> 00:28:59 go down. And we assume he follows John. But does
00:28:59 --> 00:29:03 no one else realize there's a whole human standing
00:29:03 --> 00:29:06 right there? Okay. So John doesn't even acknowledge
00:29:06 --> 00:29:11 him. I think it's just because it's at the top
00:29:11 --> 00:29:14 of a village. So maybe people just can walk into
00:29:14 --> 00:29:17 that section. I don't know. But either way, that's
00:29:17 --> 00:29:21 totally Reyes. Yeah. Totally Reyes. Yeah. Good
00:29:21 --> 00:29:23 catch. And so now we know. Why he was there.
00:29:23 --> 00:29:26 Yeah, I saw that, I think, editing. And I was
00:29:26 --> 00:29:29 like, wait, hold on. There's no way he's just
00:29:29 --> 00:29:32 standing right there. How good of a detail is
00:29:32 --> 00:29:36 that to add into this game? Because I was asking,
00:29:37 --> 00:29:39 how did he know how to be here? And how is he
00:29:39 --> 00:29:42 here just in time? They gave us that answer.
00:29:42 --> 00:29:45 That's just such a great detail. And they didn't
00:29:45 --> 00:29:49 have to add that in. But I love it. I like it
00:29:49 --> 00:29:53 too. Can we talk about Jon? Well, first of all,
00:29:53 --> 00:29:55 we've been laughing at Jon running throughout
00:29:55 --> 00:29:58 this playthrough. But it just gets so much better
00:29:58 --> 00:30:01 when his hands are tied behind his back. Gonna
00:30:01 --> 00:30:04 add in every clip of that. A compilation of him.
00:30:04 --> 00:30:08 He is cut free by Abraham. Jon and the Rebels
00:30:08 --> 00:30:11 defeat the army, and then they have their hype
00:30:11 --> 00:30:13 -up moment. Jon walks off, and that's the end
00:30:13 --> 00:30:18 of the gameplay. Any more notes from you? Nope.
00:30:19 --> 00:30:23 Wait, I do have a question. So I feel like in
00:30:23 --> 00:30:26 this game, he's always constantly traveling from,
00:30:26 --> 00:30:30 I can't remember what city the villa is in. Chuparosa
00:30:30 --> 00:30:33 to Escalera. Yeah, and back and forth and back
00:30:33 --> 00:30:35 and forth. He's been to Chuparosa like eight
00:30:35 --> 00:30:38 times. Probably not eight, but it feels like
00:30:38 --> 00:30:42 he's been there a lot. He's got some miles on
00:30:42 --> 00:30:44 that horse. The horse must be pissed at him for
00:30:44 --> 00:30:47 going back and forth. I'm pissed about having
00:30:47 --> 00:30:52 to go back and forth. No, it's fun. It's just
00:30:52 --> 00:30:54 different when I'm playing it to record because
00:30:54 --> 00:30:56 obviously I don't do any of the side content
00:30:56 --> 00:31:00 and just focus on the mission. So it's more fun
00:31:00 --> 00:31:02 when you're playing it just to play it. I will
00:31:02 --> 00:31:05 say that. It's a great game. But yeah, there
00:31:05 --> 00:31:08 are reasons people don't like the Mexico section
00:31:08 --> 00:31:10 of this game because it is a lot of back and
00:31:10 --> 00:31:13 forth and it is a lot of John seemingly being...
00:31:14 --> 00:31:19 Just allowing himself to be used. Well, that
00:31:19 --> 00:31:22 was part three. Two more parts of gameplay, and
00:31:22 --> 00:31:25 then we'll have the summary episode. Part four
00:31:25 --> 00:31:28 gameplay will be released tomorrow, and we'll
00:31:28 --> 00:31:31 discuss it next week. And we'll finally get out
00:31:31 --> 00:31:36 of Mexico. Thank goodness. With that, audacity
00:31:36 --> 00:31:39 on one, three, two, one. Thank you for listening,
00:31:39 --> 00:31:41 and don't forget to send in any questions, comments,
00:31:42 --> 00:31:44 or game suggestions. You can find all our contact

00:31:49 --> 00:31:51 completely miss something? Are we way off the

00:31:53 --> 00:31:55 look at anything from the game? We'll tackle
