.
00:00:00
In this episode, we witness fish lips and an unfortunate hand placement.
00:00:06
And has everybody lost their mind?
00:00:09
That's an understatement.
00:00:13
Thank you for coming back from our replay reviews.
00:00:14
My name is Leah.
00:00:15
And my name is Cathy.
00:00:17
We are two friends who are here to replay, review, and analyze your favorite video games.
00:00:21
And since Cathy has never seen the games before, it helps me view them through her fresh eyes,
00:00:26
almost like I'm discovering them again for the first time.
00:00:28
We hope it will be a similar experience for you.
00:00:38
I guess we'll just start with chapter 14, the Goryu March.
00:00:42
So Kiryu the florist, Date, Saema, and Tamiyo meet up with Kawara's ashes.
00:00:50
And during this meeting, they discuss the other child that was given up and the possibility
00:00:54
that the Jinguyan could have gotten to him first.
00:00:58
I don't understand why they aren't really thinking through things before, but now they're
00:01:03
finally starting to think.
00:01:04
With Saema, she made all these assumptions that her dad is with the Jinguyan mafia and
00:01:11
spacing one thing off of one assumption and then just going with it.
00:01:16
But now they're finally taking the time to think about it.
00:01:19
Yeah.
00:01:20
Maybe they thought Saema was that kid.
00:01:24
But now we know she's younger than that kid.
00:01:26
Which by the way, Kiryu is what?
00:01:29
An adolescent 20 years ago?
00:01:33
00:01:34
Saema's not even born yet.
00:01:37
Do we need to talk about the age difference?
00:01:41
Wait, wait a second.
00:01:44
You have a point there.
00:01:46
What?
00:01:47
Oh no, you look like you have the answer.
00:01:50
It's a 13 year age gap.
00:01:53
I've heard worse.
00:01:54
But that's not the only issue with her age though, because now we also have the question
00:01:59
how the hell did she get to such a high position in the Osaka police department?
00:02:05
She's 25.
00:02:07
She's younger than us.
00:02:08
Yeah.
00:02:09
That, no.
00:02:10
I don't believe it.
00:02:14
The math ain't mathin'.
00:02:16
Also discussed is a CD that Date took off of Kurahashi's corpse.
00:02:20
And you think Saema can crack it open with her hacking skills?
00:02:24
I'm kind of cringing at it.
00:02:27
Oh great.
00:02:28
You set up a one scene in the beginning saying that she's the best at what she does with
00:02:32
her computer and then just for the scene as in like, oh, how convenient that you can crack
00:02:38
something.
00:02:39
So next we see that Ryuji is on his way to Kamurocho with about, I don't know, a hundred
00:02:44
cars.
00:02:45
What's up with all the cars looking the exact same, going the same speed?
00:02:53
It's so obvious.
00:02:56
It's really awkward.
00:02:58
Back to our gang, Saema can't break the CD without special programs, so they decide their
00:03:03
best bet is to use Osaka PD's system.
00:03:07
Here you can tell that something isn't sitting right with Saema and finds her at Serena.
00:03:12
She feels like she needs to go back to Osaka with Tamio, which I don't know.
00:03:15
That's fair.
00:03:17
Also going back to the whole scene about the brute force with the CD, I just have to say
00:03:24
how stupid Giddy up looks standing in the background useless, but having this really
00:03:30
longing eye contact with Saema, I feel like again, they're just reiterating the point
00:03:38
why Saema should be the protagonist of this game.
00:03:42
She tries to leave and Kiryu stops her to kiss her.
00:03:46
I feel like that's just overwhelming her with even more emotions.
00:03:49
Are you conveying your feelings for her or is it like, don't go or is it stay safe?
00:03:55
And then you get like a stupid promise of like, come back.
00:03:58
This romance is problematic.
00:04:00
Well, it's just unnecessary.
00:04:02
Yes.
00:04:03
And there's not the chemistry that I feel like we need.
00:04:07
I mean, come on, Shindo and Yuyoi had more chemistry than these two.
00:04:13
Yes.
00:04:14
Anyway, Saema heads out.
00:04:17
Kiryu gets a call from Date who informs him that Kazuki has woken up and is talking nonsense
00:04:22
about bombs.
00:04:23
Okay, so Date's like, he's talking nonsense and Kiryu's like, you mean he's like not
00:04:28
coherent or something?
00:04:30
And Date goes, yeah, he's mumbling about bombs.
00:04:33
Anyway, just moves on from the bombs so quickly.
00:04:38
Again, none of these characters know how to communicate.
00:04:42
He literally dropped a bomb on Kiryu and just kept going.
00:04:46
Okay, so at the clinic, we learned that the Jinguyan mafia had Kazuki locked up for six
00:04:52
months and that they're planning to destroy the entire city.
00:04:57
There are 33 bombs in total, one for each of the victims from the raid, and there's
00:05:03
31 left.
00:05:05
Date's gonna contact the police for help while Kiryu heads to Tojo HQ to get their support.
00:05:10
How did Yuya not notice any weird behaviors of Kazuki?
00:05:15
There's a few times we were watching this where we were like, wow, Yuya's kind of like,
00:05:20
he's kind of stupid, honestly.
00:05:23
There's that.
00:05:24
All right, ready for scene two?
00:05:28
Kiryu briefs Yayoi and Daigo on the situation.
00:05:31
Daigo decides that he's gonna lead what men they have currently.
00:05:35
The music is so cringey.
00:05:37
I need to talk with whoever's in charge of the music for this game because they're missing
00:05:42
the mark every single time.
00:05:44
It's distracting.
00:05:45
This would feel like an impactful moment.
00:05:47
It's like, oh, it's Dojo Masan ready to take charge, but then they have this corny...
00:05:55
Is it guitar?
00:05:57
It's too much and it distracts you from what's happening and makes it just feel corny.
00:06:03
Date calls Kiryu, so he and Daigo head to meet him at Purgatory where we learn that
00:06:07
the PD is sitting this one out.
00:06:11
No surprise.
00:06:12
They want to arrest Date, but they don't want to stop 31 bombs from demolishing the city.
00:06:20
Who's making these decisions?
00:06:22
Anyway, they say, we'll just do it ourselves.
00:06:24
We'll just diffuse 31 bombs by ourselves.
00:06:29
Majima then shows up to Purgatory and he gets the system up and running by smashing his
00:06:33
noggin against the desk multiple times.
00:06:36
And this allows them to pinpoint all the locations of the bombs.
00:06:41
Majima saves the day.
00:06:43
Always.
00:06:44
Okay, so Kiryu gets a call from the Bantam bartender, the clinic doctor, and Yuya.
00:06:52
All three of them are like, help us.
00:06:54
Omi men are here.
00:06:56
And one by one we go and we rescue everybody.
00:06:59
We finish up at Stardust where Ryuji's waiting for him.
00:07:03
And after defeating his men, Ryuji tells Kiryu that the bombs are a JM special.
00:07:09
That's probably me abbreviating, not Ryuji.
00:07:13
And it seems like he wants Kiryu to stop it because he says Kamurocho is going to be mine
00:07:17
soon.
00:07:18
Again, Ryuji's making sense.
00:07:21
And he has such great honor to not just kill Kiryu at this moment, but pretty much tell
00:07:26
him that I still want a fair fight.
00:07:28
I don't understand how the villain in the game is the one that actually makes the most
00:07:32
sense.
00:07:33
Here's what I've been thinking over the last two days.
00:07:35
I don't think it's even fair to call Ryuji a villain because put him in any other position
00:07:41
where he's not fighting against Kiryu, we would still see him as another character.
00:07:46
Yeah, he doesn't feel like one, but if our perspective is the Tojo Clan, then he is.
00:07:53
Because he's trying to destroy the Tojo Clan.
00:07:57
But I agree, he doesn't really feel like a villain.
00:08:00
He feels like another character.
00:08:01
He's no different than...I guess the question is, would you consider Nishiki a villain in
00:08:07
Kiwami?
00:08:08
Yeah.
00:08:09
Okay.
00:08:10
It just depends on our perspective.
00:08:13
If our perspective is the Tojo Clan, then yeah.
00:08:17
I think that's fair because I never thought of it in that way.
00:08:20
I always thought Nishiki was just another character and if anyone, Kazama was the villain.
00:08:26
Oh, I agree with that for sure.
00:08:30
You know I hate him.
00:08:31
I know you do.
00:08:33
And so for me, I always saw the Jingguan army as the villain because that's the boss.
00:08:42
The big people are trying to fight again.
00:08:44
So okay.
00:08:45
I mean, it's both.
00:08:47
Yeah.
00:08:48
They have a common goal.
00:08:51
After Kiryu has dealt with all that, he'll be waiting for him at the highest point in
00:08:55
Kamurocho.
00:08:57
Anything else unseen too?
00:08:58
I want to go back and talk about Daigo.
00:09:04
Which when I quoted you on this, when you're like, take your clothes off Daigo.
00:09:11
I wish that they gave him a little bit more growth in terms of his character's outfit
00:09:17
just to illustrate that because we kind of get that between Kiryu and Majima's character
00:09:23
and same with Nishiki.
00:09:25
Every time they level up, they get a new outfit.
00:09:27
Yeah, it hurts to see him back in the marshmallow jacket because when we find him, we're like,
00:09:35
oh, he's like some stupid thug now, right?
00:09:38
In his dumb marshmallow jacket.
00:09:41
And then it's like in this moment, he's I guess manning up in the Yakuza sense to take
00:09:47
the position that he should.
00:09:49
And we see him without the marshmallow jacket or the necklace.
00:09:54
And then suddenly he's back in it again.
00:09:57
So it just feels like, well, now he looks like a punk again.
00:10:00
And I don't like it.
00:10:03
So speaking of Daigo, he arrives at Stardust as Kiryu is chatting with Yuya.
00:10:08
He tells Kiryu that they have handled 30 of the bombs.
00:10:11
That's a miracle.
00:10:13
And that Majima is working on the last one.
00:10:15
We then cut to Majima and his right hand man working on the bomb.
00:10:19
This scene is a masterpiece.
00:10:22
I love it so much.
00:10:23
I think his name might be Murata, but I can't remember.
00:10:27
But his right hand man is obviously uncomfortable because Majima is just going on gut instincts
00:10:32
to decide which wires to cut.
00:10:35
And Majima says, you got gas or something.
00:10:39
I just seriously love Majima in this scene so much because it's the humor we needed in
00:10:47
this game that we haven't really received yet.
00:10:49
OK, but then it looks like he chooses the wrong wire because we see an explosion.
00:10:56
But then we cut to Sayama who wakes up and says, what an awful dream.
00:11:01
So she's cracking the disk.
00:11:03
And I think we see an image of Ryuji on the screen.
00:11:07
We then go back to Kiryu and Daigo.
00:11:09
And it is confirmed that Majima is working on the bomb.
00:11:12
So I'm not sure what's real anymore.
00:11:15
Was that whole scene a dream of Sayama's?
00:11:19
Was just the part where the building exploded her dream?
00:11:23
Is Majima dead?
00:11:24
Sayama doesn't know about the bombs though.
00:11:26
That's what I'm saying.
00:11:27
I'm so confused.
00:11:28
She doesn't know about the bombs.
00:11:30
So why is she dreaming of bomb explosions?
00:11:34
But she's also not that close with Majima either.
00:11:36
So why is she dreaming about Majima?
00:11:40
I don't know.
00:11:41
I'm very, very confused by this.
00:11:44
I guess we should just be expecting that from this game at this point.
00:11:48
Kiryu and Daigo head to Purgatory where we find Majima alive.
00:11:54
And then Kiryu takes Haruka out again for a while while he waits for Sayama to return.
00:12:01
Kiryu then meets back up with Date who has Sudo with him.
00:12:04
And I guess Date made a copy of the disk and had Sudo crack it.
00:12:08
How and when?
00:12:10
I don't really know why we sent Sayama at all.
00:12:13
We're just going to glaze over that though.
00:12:15
So he knows that Sayama and Ryuji are half siblings.
00:12:18
It is confirmed.
00:12:20
And then right as this is going down, Sayama just shows up.
00:12:23
But she lies and says that she could not break the disk at Osaka PD.
00:12:28
I don't understand why she lied.
00:12:30
This is why in my out of context summary, I'm like, has everyone lost their minds?
00:12:34
Because nobody is doing anything properly.
00:12:37
Well and then she tries to convince Kiryu not to fight Ryuji but he insists.
00:12:43
And what is Kiryu doing?
00:12:46
If you love her, why are you going to try to kill her brother?
00:12:52
That's a great point.
00:12:53
I forgot.
00:12:54
I don't understand.
00:12:56
So early on you know and yet he still makes these decisions.
00:13:02
What dog does Kiryu have in this fight?
00:13:04
He's not in the Yakuza.
00:13:05
Why the hell does he care?
00:13:07
Who's the dragon?
00:13:08
You know what I mean?
00:13:09
Didn't you give all that up?
00:13:10
That's actually a really great point.
00:13:12
You know what?
00:13:13
So much could have been avoided if he just told Ryuji that I'm not in the Yakuza.
00:13:18
I don't give a flying crap about who the dragon is going to be.
00:13:23
Be him for all you want and this all would have been avoided.
00:13:28
And what does Kiryu losing a one on one fight have to do with the survival of the Tojo clan?
00:13:34
It goes back to our question I think we're going to have in this summary which is why
00:13:37
is Kiryu here in this game?
00:13:41
Back to Sayama she insists that Kiryu go meet with her chief.
00:13:47
So Kiryu and Date go to where she said that he would be waiting but instead they find
00:13:51
a video left by Sayama and in this video she admits she cracked the disk and that she knows
00:13:58
about Ryuji.
00:14:00
She's going to try to talk to him and maybe talk him out of the war and then continues
00:14:05
to talk about the time that she and Kiryu spent together and makes it sound like she'll
00:14:09
never see him again.
00:14:11
What I don't understand is why didn't she tell everyone that she knows who Ryuji is?
00:14:18
Kiryu gets very upset.
00:14:19
He pounds the table and then assaults the door on his way out.
00:14:23
How many times did I make you watch Kiryu be mad?
00:14:28
More than enough.
00:14:30
Oh boy.
00:14:33
Alright Kathy.
00:14:34
Oh my god.
00:14:35
Buckle up.
00:14:37
This is where it hurts.
00:14:38
Back to Majima chapter 3, Mad Dog of Shimenoh.
00:14:42
We're right back where we left off with Majima trapped by Makoto giving him a massage.
00:14:47
There is some weird music going on.
00:14:49
I'm not surprised.
00:14:51
Okay, well she moves to his feet and then she's like I'm going to do your arms next
00:14:58
and she says it kind of sensually.
00:15:04
Well now that she can see Majima and maybe her husband's boring and she likes a tatted
00:15:11
up dude.
00:15:12
Oh also, okay wait.
00:15:15
She's also wearing black socks with white shoes.
00:15:18
Is this just an acceptable way of doing socks and shoes in Japan?
00:15:23
I mean I never really thought about it.
00:15:26
It's like standard.
00:15:27
We need to watch some kind of fashion show and just stare at their ankles and sock of
00:15:33
choice.
00:15:34
Well but it can't be a fashion show though because they try to look stupid on purpose.
00:15:38
It has to be like etiquette.
00:15:42
We took a tangent.
00:15:43
We need to get back on track.
00:15:45
Okay I have a note here because obviously Majima is still hiding from her and I had
00:15:54
this thought.
00:15:55
Have we ever seen Majima hide from anything?
00:15:59
That's the thing that's something I had in my character analysis part of this scene I
00:16:04
guess.
00:16:05
Which is that he wants to know so much more without giving away anything.
00:16:10
He wants to be protective without showing how protective he is and I think that's why
00:16:17
we're getting this.
00:16:18
I don't think he's scared.
00:16:19
I think he's trying to protect her and protect himself.
00:16:24
So at some point Majima notices her watch, the one that he left buried for her, and she
00:16:29
notices him look at it and then begins to talk about it telling their story pretty much.
00:16:36
I'm kind of mad that Majima doesn't ask her to elaborate or have any follow up questions
00:16:44
and I get part of the reason why is he's again trying to protect her from everything.
00:16:50
At the same time though I'm just so mad he's not saying anything.
00:16:54
I think he does want to say something so bad but he knows he can't.
00:17:00
If they actually had a conversation how do you think that conversation would have gone?
00:17:05
I don't think it would have been a question.
00:17:07
I think he would have just turned so she could see his face and maybe like grab is a weird
00:17:14
word but lightly grab her watch, her wrist and just say her name.
00:17:19
It's his voice that she really would recognize.
00:17:23
If they were going to reveal in this moment I feel like that's how they would do it and
00:17:27
then after that I don't know.
00:17:29
That's where the scene ends.
00:17:31
Yeah.
00:17:32
Well I mean I think maybe we do know.
00:17:34
I think it would either be tragic, she wouldn't leave her husband and child for him which
00:17:40
we find out she has, or it would be tragic because she does leave her husband and child
00:17:46
for him.
00:17:48
It's a lose-lose.
00:17:49
I need to know more about what Makoto is thinking because did she choose this husband and child
00:17:57
because she just was ready to settle down because she said that she always remembers
00:18:02
Majima without her saying his name but she's married and with kids so did she just choose
00:18:08
to move on because she's ready to put Majima behind her life knowing that she'll never
00:18:14
find him or do you think that she's truly happy with where she is?
00:18:20
Let's get into it.
00:18:22
Starting back after he notices the watch she says a few things like it's a treasure of
00:18:27
mine and when the strap wore out I even got a new one.
00:18:30
It's an old piece though so new colors don't really match it.
00:18:34
She goes on to say I got it from someone who saved my life and this is where she tells
00:18:37
their whole story and we realize she still has never known his name.
00:18:43
She credits him for regaining her vision and having her normal life including her husband
00:18:48
and child and she says life is great so we know that she likes her life but then I don't
00:18:54
know if you want to chime in at all yet.
00:18:56
Keep going.
00:18:57
I should keep going.
00:18:59
So but then she says I never got a chance to thank him for that.
00:19:03
I've regretted it ever since and she says basically that she moved back here because
00:19:09
of him.
00:19:10
It's a special town to me full of memories of the time we had.
00:19:13
In my notes I'm like yeah she loves him even if she doesn't know it.
00:19:18
Yeah.
00:19:19
Right?
00:19:20
That's yeah.
00:19:21
I'm going to cut you off here because that's what I'm feeling but I'm also very conflicted
00:19:26
and I keep going back and forth in my notes because on one hand I'm worried that she's
00:19:31
mistaking this gratitude of someone saving her life for like romantic affection but at
00:19:38
the same time she went on those like takoyaki dates with him and just thought like when
00:19:44
he was guiding her and waving her in and out of just those crowds just they're like strengthening
00:19:51
her romantic affection for him based on what she's saying right now.
00:19:57
She truly loves him and that's why she moved back but at the same time if you truly loved
00:20:02
him I don't know if she would have gotten married.
00:20:04
Okay.
00:20:05
A couple things.
00:20:06
Yes I do think a lot of it could be mistaking it for you know oh it's my savior and that
00:20:14
obviously that's going to make you fall for someone easier.
00:20:18
We'll learn later.
00:20:19
It's been 18 years.
00:20:20
I don't think you move your whole life and stay there for 18 years waiting for someone
00:20:27
just for that.
00:20:29
You know what I mean?
00:20:30
That's true.
00:20:31
And I think at the end of the last game when she finds the watch or she's talking to dead
00:20:35
Tachibana she says I don't even know if he's alive or dead.
00:20:40
So she didn't really even know what she was waiting for.
00:20:44
If we can get real deep about it.
00:20:46
I think she's probably never felt anything close to what she felt during that and that's
00:20:52
why she's going back even though there's a strong possibility he's dead.
00:20:56
That's such a great point.
00:20:58
That made so much sense.
00:21:00
I think that's the killer is that she's never going to feel that level of closeness with
00:21:05
anyone, not even her husband.
00:21:09
Because of that.
00:21:10
But here's the thing.
00:21:12
She didn't get married and didn't have kids.
00:21:15
Do you think Majima would continue to protect her now that he found out where she is?
00:21:19
Maybe make a move or do you think he would still continue to be in the shadows after
00:21:24
18 years knowing that she's here because of him?
00:21:28
Hold on to that question and move it to scene five.
00:21:34
And I'll address it then.
00:21:35
All right, so let's finish up kind of her one sided conversation.
00:21:41
So she tells him all of this and then goes on to say not even my husband knows that story.
00:21:45
So it's our secret.
00:21:46
Ah, that kills me.
00:21:47
Number one, I'm like Majima loves that.
00:21:50
But I was like, is this this is kind of like borderline emotional cheating.
00:21:56
It's really dishonest to make your husband move your guys' lives for this guy that he
00:22:02
has no idea about that may or may not be alive.
00:22:06
Just for the chance of seeing him again, she moved their lives.
00:22:10
And the thing is, she doesn't even know she'll recognize him if she sees him.
00:22:14
I think that if she told her husband that this is my savior, I want to bump into him
00:22:20
and not tell him that there's romantic affection.
00:22:23
I could see he being on board with that, but I agree with you.
00:22:27
I still think it's a bit of emotional cheating.
00:22:30
If there was nothing to hide, she wouldn't be hiding it.
00:22:33
Mm hmm.
00:22:34
Like she could have been honest with him.
00:22:35
I really want to move back here, like like what you said and give the reasoning.
00:22:38
And the only reason to not do that is if you feel some sort of guilt, perhaps.
00:22:44
OK, do we have to go to the line now?
00:22:50
The line.
00:22:51
We have to.
00:22:52
All right.
00:22:53
I'll set it up.
00:22:54
So massage is over.
00:22:56
She's like seeing him out.
00:22:58
Basically, she goes, have we met before?
00:23:00
This is when he thinks really hard about whether or not to tell her.
00:23:04
And you can just see it on his face.
00:23:06
He thought so hard about whether or not to tell her that he is that guy.
00:23:12
Another reason why he and Nishiki are some of my favorite characters are because they
00:23:19
think before they act.
00:23:20
Giryu just acts on whatever impulses he wants without thinking about consequences.
00:23:26
He really considers other people in this situation like how is my actions going to affect Makoto?
00:23:34
So something you said just made me realize that I can't really I feel like we don't
00:23:39
get enough scenes with Nishiki to talk about him in this.
00:23:42
But like if we compare Kiryu to Majima and you look at the eyes or eye in Majima's case,
00:23:48
you can see Majima thinking and processing.
00:23:53
You do not see that behind Kiryu's eyes.
00:23:56
I mean, we are dumping on him in this game.
00:23:59
But truly, pay attention to his eyes.
00:24:03
But he just shakes his head and starts walking out.
00:24:05
And then she goes, do you at least feel better?
00:24:09
And he says, you worked out some knots I've had for 18 years.
00:24:13
After all that line, it slaps harder than when Simon left the handprint on that guy.
00:24:20
Right.
00:24:21
Like it's such a good line.
00:24:22
But also he reveals his voice by doing this.
00:24:27
I think the hardest part is that it felt like a conclusion and I wasn't ready for it.
00:24:35
Maybe he's speaking again is to give her a chance to see like test out the waters that
00:24:43
maybe she might still remember my voice.
00:24:45
I'm going to say something, but obviously she doesn't.
00:24:48
And maybe that's what is the nail in the coffin.
00:24:52
It was a risk.
00:24:53
He took a risk.
00:24:54
I think we'll discuss it more when we get when we get more information.
00:24:57
But are we ready to go outside of the massage parlor now?
00:25:02
Yeah, let's not give ourselves more heartache.
00:25:05
So Majima learns from Makoto's coworker that she'll be moving out of the country next week.
00:25:12
And then as he's walking away, Majima gets a call from the hostess at the Grand.
00:25:17
Kawamura is there and apparently he rushed in and shot an Omi exec.
00:25:22
So Majima arrives at the Grand to find Kawamura still with gun in hand.
00:25:26
He says, if I didn't kill him, it would have been me.
00:25:29
Just one more.
00:25:30
When that's done, I'll be free.
00:25:32
If I kill you, I get out alive.
00:25:34
Of course, Majima defeats him.
00:25:37
So just as Kawamura is about to reveal everything, he's shot by Ibuchi who says your debt is
00:25:43
paid in full.
00:25:44
I knew Ibuchi wasn't a good guy.
00:25:46
When someone that clean cut and looks like he doesn't want to get his hands dirty joins
00:25:51
the Yakuza, you know, it's not good.
00:25:55
It turns out Ibuchi was playing a very long game of planting Kawamura in the Majima family.
00:26:01
I guess he just hates the Yakuza and he wants to introduce proper management.
00:26:05
So my question is if you hate them so much, why join?
00:26:09
He's one of those rich boys that want to prove themselves wrong but has never worked a day
00:26:15
in their life so they tackle the biggest thing and only fail at it.
00:26:20
Okay, and then so we're sitting back and forth conversation and then all of the sudden
00:26:25
there's this woman peeping from a booth in the background.
00:26:30
Where did she come from?
00:26:31
She just appeared.
00:26:33
Okay, so yeah, basically he's killing people simply to overthrow the Yakuza.
00:26:39
And his ultimate goal is to take control of the Tojo and hand it over to the Omi.
00:26:44
He's such a little baby for using a gun instead of like real fist fight and it makes me respect
00:26:49
Ryuji so much more.
00:26:51
I also love that Majima just sits there while Ibuchi makes this long speech that just rambles
00:26:58
on and he just watches him do it.
00:27:01
He's just not bothered at all.
00:27:04
And then yeah, we have the fight where he gets a gun and we don't.
00:27:08
And after defeating him, this is where Majima's character just gets so good because we just
00:27:16
saw him with Makoto all tender and now we see him here just so intense.
00:27:26
He says, if you thought I'd let you get away with taking out one of mine, who's the real
00:27:31
idiot?
00:27:32
We have to address this line because as we've discussed, Majima is the most loyal person
00:27:38
ever.
00:27:39
He's still loyal to Kawamura simply because he was one of his despite him betraying him.
00:27:46
Majima's character is so complex.
00:27:49
You have him being just outright crazy and then you also have him being strategic and
00:27:56
then you also have him showing his loyalty to Kawamura despite everything that went on.
00:28:03
I love this scene of Majima.
00:28:05
To me, this is like peak Majima.
00:28:08
And then he says, go eat your slop in the can and learn to see things my way.
00:28:13
I guess we figured out why that random woman is there.
00:28:15
She screams, which alerts Majima that Ibuchi's picking up a gun.
00:28:19
But he doesn't use it on Majima.
00:28:22
He kills himself.
00:28:23
And then Majima is going to go straighten things out with the Turada.
00:28:26
Anything before we get there.
00:28:27
I do have a question.
00:28:29
Do you think that Turada knew what Ibuchi was trying to do or do you think it just so
00:28:34
happens that Ibuchi was power hungry in this way?
00:28:38
He says he doesn't know about it, but I think that's pretty weak because as we know, we'll
00:28:46
find out.
00:28:47
Turada is pretty pro-Omi and he brought those men in.
00:28:51
So I think he has to know.
00:28:54
He decides to smooth things over at the Omi that Majima will leave the Yakuza and disband
00:28:58
his family.
00:29:00
So they head to the Omi Alliance to make this announcement.
00:29:04
And why is Ryuji sitting like a girl on the beach?
00:29:08
I was about to say, why is his back arched like that?
00:29:13
So yeah, he says all of us are leaving the Tojo Clan.
00:29:17
And that's pretty much it.
00:29:18
That's the end of the Majima family.
00:29:20
I'm wondering if one of the reasons why Majima was so willing to disband his family comes
00:29:25
from the fact that he just same day produced broke up with Makoto even though they were
00:29:31
never together.
00:29:32
But it's like he knows that's the end of it.
00:29:34
And maybe he just is trying to find a life purpose and that's why he's so okay with
00:29:38
disbanding his family.
00:29:39
Okay, I'm going to address things one at a time.
00:29:44
So the question that you asked me earlier that I said to move to this scene is if there
00:29:48
was no husband or child in the picture, would Majima still be hiding?
00:29:55
Or would he reveal himself?
00:29:58
So the timing of this, especially the first time I played it, it gave me hope that he's
00:30:03
leaving the Yakuza to go after her.
00:30:06
He says he's going to leave.
00:30:08
And we know that Makoto is about to leave.
00:30:10
It's his only chance.
00:30:12
So that's what I was like, oh my gosh, he's going to go after her the first time I saw
00:30:16
this.
00:30:17
But I almost wonder because the Yakuza was kind of his focus away from Makoto.
00:30:24
The Yakuza is not what it used to be, which we learned earlier that he does not like it
00:30:28
with Turada.
00:30:30
And so now he leaves to go start a construction company.
00:30:33
I think he's just trying to find his place again.
00:30:36
And that just he decides it's a construction company.
00:30:39
He says they're going to just look it up on the internet and start building.
00:30:43
But I also love how serious he was about like morning greetings and just getting everyone
00:30:50
in the right attitude for his company when these are people who have probably spent their
00:30:55
entire lives being the Yakuza.
00:30:57
This is when again, his right hand man who I'm just calling Murata.
00:31:00
And I have no idea if that's correct.
00:31:03
But he's kind of asking questions, Majima's, you know, Majima about it.
00:31:08
And he grabs his face in his hand to the point where it squishes his lips into fish lips
00:31:15
into little fish lips.
00:31:19
Anything else before we go back to Makoto?
00:31:21
No.
00:31:22
All right.
00:31:23
So then we go back to Makoto who Majima unfortunately did not stop her moving the country.
00:31:28
She's with her family flying to her new life.
00:31:31
But in her bag, she finds a gift that we see had been sent to her from somebody unknown,
00:31:36
which turns out to be a new watch band that is basically just like the original.
00:31:42
It's at this point that she realizes who Majima is and Makoto's ready for her fresh start,
00:31:49
though no longer feeling pulled back to the past.
00:31:53
Is she though?
00:31:54
That's that's where I'm just going to jump in.
00:31:58
That's where I don't feel like whoever wrote her character did a good enough job.
00:32:04
I just think that if she's willing to to move into this whole new city with her entire family
00:32:13
and having secrets behind her husband's back and all of a sudden by seeing a single watch
00:32:18
knowing that that's him and then also being OK with everything like you don't process
00:32:24
all that information in less than five seconds.
00:32:27
So OK, let's I hear you.
00:32:31
But let's discuss.
00:32:32
We're going to get into the weeds a little bit.
00:32:35
She goes over the story with Majima about why she moved back here and then he learns
00:32:41
she's moving.
00:32:43
I think that's his point of decision of confirmation that it's the right thing to not bother her
00:32:50
because she's moving on now.
00:32:52
She's leaving the country, so she's not staying there anymore.
00:32:56
I'm like refusing to accept the fact that her flying out is enough confirmation for him
00:33:02
to know that she'll never be back.
00:33:05
It's not that she'll never be back.
00:33:06
It's that she's just moving on.
00:33:08
She's letting go of it, and that's why she's able to even move or even entertain the idea
00:33:14
of moving.
00:33:15
And I think he realizes that when he hears that she's moving.
00:33:18
And that's why he decides to just give her the watch band, which her husband asked if
00:33:23
she has any regrets and she says not anymore.
00:33:26
And honestly, Majima did that for her.
00:33:28
He found a way to tell her because her big thing was like, I want to thank him.
00:33:34
And he found a way to let her know that she had in fact thanked him without revealing
00:33:40
himself in the moment and having to deal with all of that.
00:33:45
It felt like the door closed too easy.
00:33:47
And I appreciate how much Majima did it for her, again, demonstrating how great he is
00:33:53
because he knew that she probably wanted the conclusion and he gave that to her.
00:33:58
I think she just I struggle with the fact that she accepted it so easily after 18 years
00:34:04
of thinking about this man.
00:34:07
What do you mean by accepted it?
00:34:09
Like she was ready to move on.
00:34:11
And then when he says that, does she have any regrets?
00:34:14
She says, like, no, I feel like I would.
00:34:18
Yeah, because her one regret was not being able to thank him.
00:34:22
But now she knows she did thank him.
00:34:24
Yeah, I guess I thought her regret should have been that she never tried to have a relationship
00:34:32
with him.
00:34:33
That's her regret.
00:34:36
That's our regret.
00:34:39
Yes.
00:34:41
I think I get it.
00:34:42
I think I'm just still so heartbroken over them not being together that I'm still in
00:34:48
denial.
00:34:49
It's heartbreaking.
00:34:51
This is better romance than you see in any like romance show book.
00:34:57
I mean, I don't consume a whole lot of that.
00:34:59
But honestly, this is probably why because can it get better than this?
00:35:04
Well, should we close the door on Makoto and move on to Chapter 16?
00:35:09
Yeah.
00:35:10
Chapter 16 decision.
00:35:12
Kiryu heads out to face Ryuji and chase after Sayama, I guess.
00:35:16
He fights his way through the city up to Kamurocho Hills, Majima's building, where he finds a
00:35:21
sign Sayama pointing a gun at Ryuji.
00:35:24
She demands that he hand over Chairman Goda and Ryuji says, he's over there, knock yourself
00:35:29
out.
00:35:30
And then we just see Chairman Goda in the corner.
00:35:32
This poor man.
00:35:34
I totally forgot about him.
00:35:36
Okay.
00:35:37
So after ensuring that the chairman is in good condition, Sayama says she'll be arresting
00:35:41
Ryuji and also turning herself in.
00:35:44
And this is when she breaks the news to Ryuji about them being half siblings.
00:35:49
I feel like Sayama isn't quite processing any emotions since finding out who her dad
00:35:55
is.
00:35:56
Yeah.
00:35:57
Chairman Goda chimes in and talks about your mother was exhausted trying to keep you safe,
00:36:02
blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:36:05
He took in Suihan, their mother, until Kawara stole her away from him.
00:36:11
I think.
00:36:12
He begs her to leave Ryuji with him because he felt like he was his son.
00:36:16
This age gap though is massive, isn't it?
00:36:20
Ryuji looks like the grandson more than a son.
00:36:23
But I also feel like him feeling like, oh, Ryuji's my son is such a weak excuse.
00:36:28
And it would have been so much better if they had just let him be kind of a bad guy in this
00:36:33
moment.
00:36:35
And he had actually just wanted Ryuji for the sake of having a successor and not because
00:36:40
he actually cared about him.
00:36:42
Okay.
00:36:43
We're getting mad at Kiryu again.
00:36:46
So he's chiming in, you know, going back and forth with Ryuji a little bit.
00:36:50
And he says something along the lines of, I knew a man like you once, clearly referencing
00:36:55
Nishiki.
00:36:56
Don't disrespect his name.
00:36:58
Just leave him out of it.
00:37:00
Let him rest.
00:37:02
So despite Sayama being very upset with both of them, they decide to just lock her out.
00:37:09
Sayama could have easily climbed up that gate.
00:37:11
There was no roof on it.
00:37:13
It was basically a ladder.
00:37:14
It had rungs.
00:37:17
And she could have just shot a warning shot in between the bars.
00:37:21
Okay.
00:37:23
What's your next note?
00:37:24
Tarada.
00:37:25
Oh my gosh.
00:37:28
Yeah.
00:37:29
He just comes walking up talking about some perfect script.
00:37:34
I'm so confused that talk about being dramatic.
00:37:38
He takes it a whole nother level with this was my plan.
00:37:42
This is my play.
00:37:43
These are the lines you're about to say.
00:37:47
Yeah.
00:37:48
Of course he's one of the Jinguyan survivors.
00:37:52
Of course he's not actually dead, which we haven't even addressed yet.
00:37:56
Kira chose the wrong man to be the chairman.
00:38:01
Yeah.
00:38:02
And another flashback.
00:38:03
Yeah.
00:38:04
Another flashback.
00:38:06
Before we get there, for some reason Kiryu is like the one pillar holding up the Tojo
00:38:11
clan and so he has to die.
00:38:13
And he says once you're dead, I'll end it with the switch for the explosives.
00:38:17
That seems like a weird line, but I have it in quotes.
00:38:20
So I guess that's what he said.
00:38:21
And that's when we see a giant bomb.
00:38:23
He does recognize he's also in the vicinity of the bomb, right?
00:38:29
I would hope so, but I don't have a lot of confidence in Tarada's thought processing.
00:38:36
Do you want to discuss the flashback?
00:38:39
Here's when we try to make Kazama look like a god again.
00:38:43
We learn about how Kazama was the one who spared him and Kurahashi from dying.
00:38:50
And then Kiryu just pops into the scene, makes eye contact with all of them, and they watch
00:38:57
him leave that situation.
00:39:00
And so he's like, well Kazama did so much for you, why are you not doing the same thing?
00:39:06
Also a couple things.
00:39:07
Number one, young Tarada, worse than young Kiryu.
00:39:11
Get it out of my sight.
00:39:13
Oh my gosh.
00:39:15
It's worse than skinny boy Shimano.
00:39:17
Okay, and then also there's a scene.
00:39:22
So when Kazama is facing young Kurahashi and Tarada, it then cuts to like a back view and
00:39:29
Tarada's hand just happens to be angled right between Kazama's legs.
00:39:36
So all of a sudden you're like there's something flesh colored between Kazama's legs and it's
00:39:42
jolting.
00:39:43
It makes you do double take and pause and lean forward.
00:39:48
So yeah, basically Kazama let them live and then I think we're done with the flashback.
00:39:56
Chairman Goda chimes in and says that Kazama begged him to take Tarada into the Omi Alliance.
00:40:05
Why?
00:40:06
Why is he bringing them into the Yakuza when they could have?
00:40:12
This was the perfect time for them to just leave the mafia lifestyle.
00:40:17
He did more for Tarada than he did for Nishiki.
00:40:22
I'm so mad.
00:40:23
We're bringing Nishiki back into it.
00:40:25
Who the hell is Tarada to you?
00:40:28
Why do you care what happens to him?
00:40:30
There is absolutely zero reasoning for this.
00:40:33
And who is he to you compared to you taking Hiryu and Nishiki as your children yet you
00:40:41
set one up for success and you set one up for failure?
00:40:45
When you're on your hands and knees for a stranger?
00:40:48
They need to stop trying to make Kazama look like a good guy.
00:40:52
It's too late.
00:40:54
Hiryu defeats Tarada but then he gets shot in the back by Takashima who has now arrived.
00:41:00
Chairman Goda gets shot as well.
00:41:01
Through dialogue we learn that the Jinguyan infiltrated the Omi simply to have a way to
00:41:06
take down the Tojo Clan.
00:41:09
And yet Takashima is also one of the Jinguyan survivors who isn't at this point.
00:41:15
Who's doing all these counts of how many survivors there are because that person cannot count.
00:41:20
Takashima then turns on Tarada and shoots him point blank.
00:41:26
And then the detonator for the bomb I think which I think we'll learn later it's a fuse.
00:41:31
So I'm not sure but anyway he drops it as he collapses.
00:41:37
Okay so things continue to get confusing.
00:41:39
Tarada arms the bomb and then tells Hiryu to stop Takashima and says trust me.
00:41:45
Trust him with what?
00:41:46
Okay so I think you have a note about this but at some point Sayama gets the gun shot
00:41:53
out of her hand.
00:41:54
She's had multiple opportunities to pick it back up.
00:41:58
But Cathy what does she do instead?
00:42:01
She takes her stupid little baton and thinks it's more lethal than her gun.
00:42:08
You could just reach down and pick up your gun.
00:42:10
His back was to you multiple times but no you run at an armed man with a baton.
00:42:16
Well to no one's surprise the baton is not an effective weapon against a man with a gun.
00:42:20
And he's about to kill her but this is when Ryuichi wakes up to stop him.
00:42:24
And he shoots the heck out of Takashima but he gets hit a couple times himself.
00:42:30
I love this I love seeing this.
00:42:32
So like it's like beast mode.
00:42:34
Yes.
00:42:35
And he ends it with a headshot to finish the deal.
00:42:38
Like that's the only way to do it and he does it.
00:42:41
Ryuichi finishes what he starts.
00:42:44
Oh Cathy.
00:42:47
So as you as you mentioned they have mirroring gunshots.
00:42:51
So they're on equal playing field now right?
00:42:54
So they decide hey there's a bomb about to explode.
00:42:58
We're on equal footing.
00:43:00
Let's hash this out right now.
00:43:01
Fight to the death.
00:43:02
Sure let's do it.
00:43:04
Sayama who gives a f*** about her?
00:43:06
Sunder down.
00:43:07
I know.
00:43:08
Exactly.
00:43:09
And the thing is so what if you won the bomb's about to explode because you got like what
00:43:14
less than 10 minutes on it.
00:43:17
And so what's your escape plan when you're about to die but you still need to leave the
00:43:24
tower to become the ruler of dragons.
00:43:28
Okay here's the big question that I typed out in all caps.
00:43:35
What about Haruka?
00:43:37
He's probably okay with the freaking pedophile agent kidnapping her because he obviously
00:43:43
doesn't care about her.
00:43:45
He doesn't care about his promises to Yumi.
00:43:49
I said it before I'll say it again.
00:43:50
He is horribly written in this game.
00:43:53
You have energy to fight Ryuji who is the half brother of the woman that you say you're
00:43:58
in love with.
00:43:59
You could do that.
00:44:00
You could destroy that relationship with her.
00:44:02
You could stay here and die or you could use that energy that you still currently have
00:44:07
and leave.
00:44:09
I don't understand why it's so hard to give up his position as the dragon of Kansai.
00:44:14
It'd be one thing if he never left the Yakuza but he did.
00:44:19
And again at the start of this game he's like I'm gonna be a civilian and be a good
00:44:23
father to Haruka.
00:44:25
Melee dumps her.
00:44:27
Although who is his role model as a father?
00:44:30
I was gonna say that he learns the selfishness from the most selfish man.
00:44:37
So they pretty much beat each other up and long story short Ryuji is forced to die because
00:44:45
Kiryu is the hero.
00:44:48
Okay yeah but so long to Ryuji.
00:44:50
I don't care if he's the villain.
00:44:52
He's a mother respecter.
00:44:54
All the way through and through.
00:44:55
He did everything by his own moral code that he never wavered from.
00:45:01
I would argue to say one of the most mother respecters of all the mother respecters we've
00:45:07
done so far off the top of my head.
00:45:09
The only one that would be above him is Tachibana.
00:45:12
Yeah that is true.
00:45:15
Very disappointed that his character dies because I do think he is one of the best characters.
00:45:21
There was so much potential for him and I see this even though as much as I love Nishiki
00:45:26
Ryuji was better in a lot of ways that he could have gone so far in this series.
00:45:34
Are we talking about the the Sudo and Date come in?
00:45:38
Yeah okay.
00:45:40
Ugh okay there's three minutes left on the bomb.
00:45:43
As the helicopter approaches with Date, Sudo, and Haruka inside.
00:45:50
How would you put her so close to a bomb and possibly watch her see her only family member
00:45:58
left get blown to smithereens?
00:46:01
Who brings a child up to a bomb.
00:46:03
Which by the way Date announces they need to run.
00:46:07
But for some reason they decide to instead just kiss until they blow up.
00:46:11
And they had time.
00:46:12
They had time.
00:46:14
He could have pulled the plane, dropped the ladder down.
00:46:17
They only need to climb up two three rungs and they would be fine.
00:46:21
But instead they're like you know what screw Haruka let's just die together.
00:46:27
And they know it too.
00:46:28
What was the line?
00:46:29
Oh they do.
00:46:30
Yeah.
00:46:31
She's like oh poor Haruka.
00:46:32
And Kiryu goes but at least I know she'll understand.
00:46:38
Understand what Kiryu?
00:46:41
Exactly.
00:46:42
And then this music who is in charge of this and the close ups.
00:46:47
I cannot with the music ruins it for me.
00:46:50
I mean I'm already pretty mad about what's happening but seriously.
00:46:54
If you have the physical capability to make out for three minutes I think you can muster
00:47:01
the strength to walk down to the elevator.
00:47:04
All you gotta do is roll a few times.
00:47:06
You're on that elevator.
00:47:07
You hit the button.
00:47:09
Mm-hmm.
00:47:10
There you go.
00:47:11
Or try to defuse the bomb.
00:47:13
Huh.
00:47:14
Yeah right.
00:47:15
Let's see we've defused how many bombs in this past three hours?
00:47:19
31.
00:47:20
You think we can maybe handle one more?
00:47:23
Exactly.
00:47:24
Which is it bad that I kind of wish they died?
00:47:27
No I do too.
00:47:31
And then okay are we ready to move on to the after credits scene?
00:47:35
Yeah.
00:47:36
Okay we watch the credits and then we see Haruka in the cemetery talking to someone.
00:47:40
And we assume oh it's Kiryu.
00:47:43
He died.
00:47:44
But no she's not thanking Kiryu's grave.
00:47:46
She's thanking the grave of Turada?
00:47:52
So what?
00:47:55
For what?
00:47:56
For what?
00:47:57
What?
00:47:58
For making the bomb look realistic?
00:48:00
For letting her know that Kiryu doesn't give a flying crap about her?
00:48:05
And the thing is this isn't even the first time.
00:48:08
This is repeat offense like trying to leave her with that pedophile prediction dude.
00:48:14
Haruka should not be with Kiryu.
00:48:16
No.
00:48:17
Who by the way we quickly see that he is alive.
00:48:21
And he and Date are watching Haruka.
00:48:24
And this is when we learn the bomb was defused already.
00:48:28
Okay.
00:48:30
And then Saima shows up.
00:48:32
With flowers for whose grave?
00:48:33
Turada?
00:48:34
Why do we give a f*** about Turada?
00:48:36
Exactly.
00:48:37
I enjoy playing this game.
00:48:40
I enjoy it greatly.
00:48:42
But it's also bad.
00:48:46
It's not very good character development or clear storyline in terms of like the details.
00:48:56
I'm with you on this one.
00:48:57
I kind of hate this ending.
00:49:00
We're taking a break from Yakuza on a great ending.
00:49:03
I know I told you.
00:49:06
Yeah.
00:49:07
Is there a way to end or just to pause on Yakuza on watching Haruka walk weirdly?
00:49:14
Watching Kiryu know that he would want to die then to try?
00:49:19
We need a break.
00:49:20
Especially after this one.
00:49:23
Okay.
00:49:24
I don't have anything more to say.
00:49:27
No.
00:49:28
Okay.
00:49:29
I'm calling it.
00:49:30
Let's do a Dasty on one.
00:49:31
Three, two, one.
