00:00:00
In this episode, we might have seen a zombie.
00:00:04
We endure more toe torture.
00:00:07
I didn't anticipate how difficult that would be to say.
00:00:10
We endure more toe torture.
00:00:13
And we struggle to solve a toilet mystery.
00:00:18

Final part.
00:00:44
Final part.
00:00:45
That's the end.
00:00:46
Anything you want to say before we jump into scene one or should we just... get it roll- get it... rollin'?
00:00:53
Yeah, let's get the ball rolling.
00:00:56
Yikes.
00:00:57
Okay.
00:00:58
So we start off at Sunny Wo's office.
00:01:02
He wants to steal a movie role for Vivian.
00:01:05
It sounds like she's basically his cash cow.
00:01:09
How has Ricky not throat-punched Sunny yet?
00:01:12
Because I definitely would have.
00:01:14
Ricky, what are you doing?
00:01:17
Right?
00:01:18
Ricky, you know she's going to be thrown to the wolves if something goes wrong.
00:01:24
And yet he still's okay with that?
00:01:27
I know.
00:01:28
Sometimes I really like Ricky and then other times I'm like, what a pushover.
00:01:33
Right?
00:01:34
Make up your mind.
00:01:35
If I was Vivian, I wouldn't want him as a boyfriend.
00:01:38
Oh yeah, especially knowing what we learn later in this episode.
00:01:42
But continuing on, Sunny asks Wei to plant cameras at Vivian's because he needs to make sure she doesn't flake on him.
00:01:51
Are we sure that's the only reason?
00:01:54
And the thing is, as much as I like Wei, the fact that you so easily agree on carrying out his orders, not questioning things, not giving Vivian or Ricky a heads up, like you're just so complacent.
00:02:10
There's a couple things that Wei does or agrees to that I feel like is a little out of character, but maybe the longer he's part of the triad, the more he sort of loses the moral compass.
00:02:22
As much as I like Wei, at the same time, can you maybe show a bit more respect? At least he respects Tang, but Tang's earned it.
00:02:31
Yeah, maybe this is what Peggy was talking about when she said that you need a soft side.
00:02:36
I think now that there's not really anyone there because maybe his sister was out for a while and then maybe Peggy was starting to be that.
00:02:44
Now he doesn't really have anyone except Tang, who's a cop, and Mrs. Chu, who's out for blood.
00:02:51
I don't think Mrs. Chu is the best example.
00:02:54
Their interactions have been, go find this guy so I can make soup out of him.
00:03:00
Wei has to sneak into her apartment building and we have to fight through a few guys to get there.
00:03:06
I don't know if you noticed at about three minutes, 50 seconds, I knocked a guy out and then I turn around and all of a sudden he's standing again.
00:03:16
It actually jump scared me just a little bit, which is really sad to admit.
00:03:22
I'm going to watch it real quick. Oh yeah.
00:03:26
Zombie number one of the episode. Anything before we get to her apartment?
00:03:32
I have to say that I absolutely hate how much of a stereotypical Chinese accent for the security guard at Vivian's apartment.
00:03:41
I just heard it and I was like, no, why?
00:03:45
Yeah, you had a visual reaction to that.
00:03:50
I could feel the discomfort wafting off of you.
00:03:55
Yeah, I was not happy.
00:03:57
Wei is able to bug her apartment, but almost gets caught by Vivian and Ricky.
00:04:03
But during this he gets a text from Pendrew and he goes to meet him.
00:04:08
Wei is still pretty angry about Jackie being arrested, but Pendrew is fully focused on using Woe to bring down Big Smiley.
00:04:16
So he wants Wei to get a copy of the video that Woe ordered in order to use that against him to take him down.
00:04:24
Wei says he'll only do it if they let Jackie go free, which Pendrew agrees to, but he agreed to it a little too fast for comfort, I felt.
00:04:35
First of all, what pieces are missing with Sunny's case?
00:04:41
How come Pendrew is thinking that by taking him down, it's enough for everything to crumble?
00:04:48
And especially with Pendrew just being so okay and gung-ho with Wei's demands, when in the past he probably would have given Wei a hard time.
00:04:58
I feel like my distrust for Pendrew is growing at this point.
00:05:02
Agreed. I know he's wanting to do this to get to Big Smiley, but the fact that he's willing to let Jackie go so quick when he was so headstrong about taking him in in the first place,
00:05:12
kinda wishy-washy, makes you wonder why he actually took Jackie in to begin with.
00:05:19
So Wei goes home to get the surveillance video, and Vivian shows up at his door and grabs his crotch.
00:05:31
I guess Sunny sent her to thank Wei, but he refuses.
00:05:38
You're the first guy who's ever, I mean, thanks, Wei.
00:05:44
Weird exchange.
00:05:45
It is. It's a pointless interaction.
00:05:50
It could either be used as an opportunity for Ricky and Wei to grow, have a stronger bromance, like things for not doing that to my girl kind of thing,
00:06:01
or it could go south because Ricky's gonna be like, you what? And just having some misunderstanding from Sunny just kind of manipulating the situation.
00:06:10
And also, it's a great opportunity for Wei to give Vivian a heads up that I planted some bugs in your house, but he doesn't fess up.
00:06:19
What you said just made me think about what Wei is doing that's just bothering me the past couple episodes is he's just very two-sided.
00:06:30
I mean, yes, he has the two side. He's an undercover cop, but it's getting worse.
00:06:36
The balance that Wei had earlier is sort of not working anymore.
00:06:42
And Wei also lost a lot of his personality and his warmth and his moral code.
00:06:51
And I honestly don't know how much of it is impacted by being in the triads.
00:06:56
But the fact that in the earlier scenes that we've seen him, he's like, but it's still a person, whether or not they're a triad.
00:07:03
But now he doesn't care about Vivian. It only cares about Jackie and himself.
00:07:09
And Vivian's pretty innocent in all of this. She's not part of the triad.
00:07:13
Yeah.
00:07:14
So that makes it even worse.
00:07:17
So they make the exchange. Pendrew has the video and says that Jackie will go free and says that the video will put Woe away for a long time.
00:07:27
He seems to know that Uncle Poe is dead.
00:07:30
And Wei says, how did you hear about that? And he says something like, good news travels fast.
00:07:36
That's kind of a weird answer.
00:07:38
It is. But I question Pendrew's motives at this point. It's almost like he's working with Big Smile Lee.
00:07:45
So as this exchange continues, Pendrew tells Wei it's over. Your job is done. It's time to come in.
00:07:52
And Wei's pretty upset. He says, I came on to take down the sun on you, not to shuffle the deck.
00:07:58
Things get pretty heated. And Pendrew references Wei's personal issues again.
00:08:03
And at the end says, Shen, you're making a mistake. When Wei refuses to come in.
00:08:08
Well, who is Pendrew to deter- who is Pendrew to deter-
00:08:13
Sorry, I can't do this. We're having trouble.
00:08:16
It's a long day. I threw us off with this stupid toe torture.
00:08:21
Who is Pendrew to decide when the mission is over and when the Hong Kong police stops infiltrating the sun on Yi?
00:08:28
I understand he's one of the top dogs, but he really shouldn't be the one to decide when there's still so much unfinished business.
00:08:36
And if the second opinion from someone who has the inside scoop, like Wei, is saying that this is not over yet, this is not enough, he should really consider listening.
00:08:45
And I know that his ego is massive, but still. So I'm kind of glad that Wei is telling Pendrew to screw himself.
00:08:54
But at the same time, it's representing Wei choosing his loyalties to go with the triad.
00:09:00
It does seem like an odd time to try to pull the plug because, yeah, they can put Sunny Woe away, but Big Smiley hasn't been officially taken down yet.
00:09:09
You'd think that you would want to ensure that that goes through before pulling Wei in, but yeah, I think that relationship is trashed at this point.
00:09:20
Yeah, it is.
00:09:22
Raymond. Speaking of Raymond, he calls Wei to let him know that Jackie's about to be released.
00:09:27
What a cool thing for Raymond to do. I was surprised that Wei gets this call.
00:09:34
He even says, I thought you might want to be there when he gets out.
00:09:38
He's trying to buy back some goodwill with Wei, especially how he probably knows Pendrew and Wei's conversation went south.
00:09:47
Mm-hmm. He probably doesn't agree with Pendrew, maybe.
00:09:51
When Wei does go to pick him up, Jackie says that a lady cop, Tang, wanted him to be a snitch, but he declined.
00:09:58
I don't know about you, but I feel like this is kind of a risky thing for Tang to do. I feel like that's kind of putting Wei at risk a little bit.
00:10:06
I actually thought it would be very normal for Tang to test out if Jackie wants to flip because it's probably well known in the triads that if you ever get caught, the police are going to ask you to flip on someone.
00:10:19
So by not asking, if someone doesn't ask you to flip, then you're going to be pretty suspicious of why it's such a smooth departure. I don't know.
00:10:30
It's questionable. I don't understand the motive, especially because Wei said that he doesn't know anything when they wanted to arrest him.
00:10:42
I don't know why they really arrested Jackie. Maybe it was just simply to get to Wei.
00:10:47
I think it was a power move that Pendrew and or Raymond had over Wei to say that I can easily take things or give you things.
00:10:58
So before they had to Uncle Po's funeral, they need to get some more decent clothing on. So they go to a store.
00:11:05
And as we're walking in, this guy is walking like a zombie, zombie number two, or he's drunk. He's struggling. And then even after the store, he's still going. He's made it like 10 feet maximum.
00:11:20
He's hung over. But you're also like shoulder checking everyone while you're walking into. Not you're in the way like rushing into the fashion store. You're like shoulder checking them.
00:11:30
They shouldn't be there. And also you're like, screw that three point turn when you're done buying clothes and you're leaving.
00:11:38
You're like driving backwards. And it's pretty darn impressive that you haven't hit someone because within scene one, in the one minute, you had like four people fly out of your way when you weren't close.
00:11:50
But this one, you had no issues at all. I know they're all dropping their purses and diving out of the way.
00:11:57
You're like purposely hitting cars to shut Jackie up when he gets too chatty.
00:12:03
It's not on purpose. I can guarantee you that.
00:12:09
They then had to Uncle Po's funeral and the 18K show up, as do the police, including Pendrew.
00:12:16
They arrest Sonny in front of everybody. Way.
00:12:21
I don't know why he does this, but he starts. He starts some shit with Pendrew saying that they can't do this at the funeral.
00:12:28
It seems like a mistake to me because they were leaving.
00:12:32
But instead, the 18K are allowed to attack them. They didn't stop it.
00:12:38
If he didn't say anything, then they might think that, oh, he's a coward.
00:12:42
He's letting the police take Sonny Woe and just let the police take over the situation versus if he yelled at the police, it kind of shows that his loyalties aren't with the police.
00:12:52
He's fully a triad member. So it's part of him acting as his role currently with the triads.
00:13:02
So I thought it was normal. I see that.
00:13:05
But I also feel like because he knows it's Pendrew and they're at odds, I feel like he should have known.
00:13:13
Don't poke the bear because you're putting everyone else at risk at that point.
00:13:19
I think that's where I'm coming from is it's endangering everybody else, which makes sense.
00:13:26
I get it. It's another lose lose, I think, for him.
00:13:30
Regardless, a shootout begins and they fight off the 18K.
00:13:35
Well, they fight them off together for a while and then it's just Wei.
00:13:40
It's just me for like the last half of it. I don't know where they went.
00:13:43
But they decide that they need to elect a new chairman.
00:13:46
Of course, no surprise, Big Smiley nominates himself.
00:13:50
And he's about to be temporarily appointed.
00:13:52
But Jang interrupts, just like last time, saying that they need to have a proper election.
00:13:59
Wei takes her side and from there, the consensus is to wait and have a proper election.
00:14:06
I think it's hilarious that Big Smiley thinks that he can just nominate himself and everyone be OK with it because he's the most feared person.
00:14:14
Yeah.
00:14:15
But it's also a demonstration that he has no care for loyalty and traditions.
00:14:21
He wants it too much.
00:14:23
Like he's being a little too desperate about it and that kind of energy is just making everybody a little wary of him.
00:14:31
So Conoray texts Wei.
00:14:33
He said something big is going down and to come to North Point.
00:14:37
Wei arrives to find a fight and after defeating them, he gets another text that Mrs. Chu's restaurant is now being attacked.
00:14:46
On the way there, they're having a conversation and Wei says,
00:14:50
Big Smiley is coming after us. I guess he figures we can't vote against him if we're dead.
00:14:56
Holy cow, what the amount of choices you can get of how to kill someone because you can either slam them into a moving fan or throw them into the trash bin.
00:15:08
Or in the previous episodes, you just toss them onto swordfishes.
00:15:13
Excellent variety.
00:15:15
Maybe not as satisfying as Mrs. Chu whipping that cleaver out again and killing this guy that's about to threaten or kill Wei.
00:15:26
I love the demonstration how a cleaver is a woman's best friend.
00:15:29
Mrs. Chu teaches us how to attack attackers.
00:15:34
Wait for them to turn their back.
00:15:39
After the very long war, Wei heads to Ricky to try to sway him onto his side and ensure that he does not vote for Big Smiley.
00:15:48
But on the way there, Wei realizes that he hasn't kept track of Jackie and they try calling him, but he doesn't answer.
00:15:57
So Wei gets to Ricky and he's pissed because he thinks that Wei slept with Vivian.
00:16:02
Probably a lie that Wei told him, assuming that Wei wouldn't reject her.
00:16:07
But in her explanation, and Vivian's explanation to Ricky, she mentions that the police are using a sex tape to blackmail her into testifying against Sunny.
00:16:17
And Wei says, what do you think Wei will do to her when he hears?
00:16:21
So there's a pretty good case for Ricky to flip on his current allies and join Wei.
00:16:26
Wei did give Pendrew information about it and it probably had the information that Pendrew is now holding over Vivian's head.
00:16:34
And Wei never apologizes or fesses up that he's the reason why she's being blackmailed with this information.
00:16:41
And again, demonstrate just his character is starting to fall more in line with Triad members' personality types than a police officer correcting his wrongs.
00:16:52
Definitely. Although in this case, it's probably a good thing that he didn't fess up because I think what kind of clinches Ricky is when Vivian says,
00:17:02
Of all the people Sunny told me to be with, Wei is the only one who said no. The only one. Even you. You didn't say no.
00:17:11
Ricky. I want to like Ricky so bad, but I just can't.
00:17:17
And if Ricky died and we had to do Mother Respect or Mother ****, I think he would be in the latter.
00:17:24
Did we do one for Uncle Poe? Because he had an offscreen death.
00:17:28
Oh, I don't think so. No, I don't feel like I know him enough to give a good pending.
00:17:37
Yeah. Mother Neutral, considering we don't know much about him. Yeah.
00:17:43
All right. So Wei goes to meet or I guess confront Raymond. Raymond says, Pendrew doesn't know I'm here. I'm completely violating protocol.
00:17:53
Thoughts on that line, because that's the first thing that stands out to me, because as we've been discussing Raymond's character, we've kind of landed on he's very much by the book.
00:18:04
But now he's violating protocol.
00:18:07
Well, I think this is an opportunity for us to see Raymond doesn't agree with Pendrew and he might be a good guy.
00:18:15
Like he might flip on Pendrew and maybe it could build something like a storyline where Raymond has ways back.
00:18:25
The last few interactions that we've had with the police, it puts up a lot of red flags with Pendrew and Raymond's getting cooler.
00:18:34
He let Wei know about Jackie. Now he's violating protocol just to give Wei this information.
00:18:40
Raymond has a line he says, I never wanted you for this. After what doggies did to your sister and how you handled things in San Francisco.
00:18:48
What happened in San Francisco?
00:18:51
I'm wondering if Raymond was part of the team that worked in San Francisco, or maybe he has such a way has such a reputation that I carried across seas to Hong Kong.
00:19:04
This might be something in ways file. So we'll go over those for the summary episode. But I'm curious what happened in San Francisco.
00:19:13
I feel like we need a prequel. Raymond continues.
00:19:17
Wait, you cross Pendrew. He's cut you off. This is your last chance to come in.
00:19:22
What? What's he gonna do? Arrest me? Call me a rogue cop?
00:19:27
Look, I need you to be straight with me. Is he gonna blow my cover?
00:19:32
I don't know what he'll do.
00:19:35
Not anymore. Again, Raymond's pretty cool now. He's really trying to help Wei.
00:19:41
Do you think he maybe feels like Pendrew used Wei?
00:19:44
I think he's probably at his wit's end with the way Pendrew has been treating this entire situation.
00:19:50
Maybe he himself doesn't agree that it's time to pull Wei back in, but he's just taking orders from Pendrew.
00:19:57
So maybe he's just really seeing how far is Wei gonna take things to.
00:20:02
It might be a test to see if Wei is still loyal to the cause or to Pendrew.
00:20:09
But he tries again to get Wei to go with him.
00:20:12
This conversation, it's sort of the first time that we see Raymond truly appreciating Wei.
00:20:18
Before, he's been more working as the handler, trying to just keep him straight.
00:20:23
But it's almost like he sees now that he had it backwards.
00:20:27
Wei is the good guy and Pendrew is the one that can't be trusted.
00:20:31
But can Wei fully be trusted at this point?
00:20:34
I ask that because Raymond distrusted him more at the start of the game.
00:20:40
But I feel like as the game goes on, Wei gets less trustworthy from a law enforcement standpoint.
00:20:46
We've seen him do some questionable things in recent parts.
00:20:49
Is Raymond's timing off for putting his trust in Wei?
00:20:54
Raymond is just getting comfortable with not trusting Wei.
00:20:58
But at the same time, trusting him to do what it takes.
00:21:02
Raymond is probably thinking that he's not gonna do what I ask him to do, but the end results are going to be what I need to do.
00:21:09
So I'm going to trust you to do the right thing, but not trust you as a person.
00:21:15
Raymond's not really giving up and he keeps trying to get Wei to come in, but Wei gets a call that interrupts the conversation.
00:21:22
And Jackie has been taken, so Wei leaves to find him.
00:21:25
Here's a question. Do you think that Wei would have gone in with Raymond if he didn't get that call?
00:21:30
Wei has never trusted Raymond in this entire game.
00:21:34
So I would be surprised if he ends up trusting Raymond and does what he asks at this point in time.
00:21:40
I think the difference is that Pendrew's outing him pretty much.
00:21:45
I mean, he's breaking protocol.
00:21:48
I feel like Wei was considering it, and I feel like he was considering it because Raymond's breaking protocol to do this for him.
00:21:55
And he's trying to warn him, like, Pendrew has cut you off.
00:22:00
You have to come in now or basically you're done for.
00:22:04
I don't know. I feel like Wei just doesn't want to do anything with the HK police.
00:22:10
So he's not going to do as he's been told.
00:22:15
I think maybe the dilemma that is happening is what we've seen with Wei from the get-go and what Raymond has been worried about,
00:22:23
which is what happens with the triad causes Wei to maybe not think straight at times.
00:22:30
Because I think it was the wrong choice for him to not go in.
00:22:34
He could have asked for Raymond or Tang's help.
00:22:36
He could have used police resources to try to find Jackie, but he immediately just reacts and runs off.
00:22:44
So maybe that's kind of what's happening here or why I have a weird feeling about it.
00:22:49
Wei does a lot of fighting and traveling to get to Jackie, and he does eventually get there.
00:22:55
But I think you might have had some notes before we talked to Jackie.
00:23:00
One of them is the amount of times you take over people's cars.
00:23:05
Like you just hop in, kick them out. And does it even still count as is it commandeering?
00:23:11
That's the correct term of like if a police takes someone's car.
00:23:14
I think so, yeah.
00:23:15
Yeah, it doesn't even count for undercover cop because you do it way too frequently.
00:23:21
That's a good point. He doesn't ever like flash a badge.
00:23:25
He just shoves people out of the car.
00:23:28
It's not like he's doing it as a cop, which is a very triad mood that move.
00:23:32
Yeah, he's really more doing it as a triad.
00:23:34
And there's one point where you're fighting.
00:23:36
And I love this insult is you're as dumb as you look.
00:23:40
It's such a great insult that I'll probably be using.
00:23:43
That was a good one.
00:23:45
After the as dumb as you look insult, the guy that like jumps down, what's his name, horse face?
00:23:52
That derpy jump he does. I'm just kidding.
00:23:56
It's so uncomfortable.
00:23:59
All these fight scenes make me very uncomfortable.
00:24:05
So eventually, though, we do get to Jackie, who has just recently been buried alive.
00:24:10
And Jackie tells way that big smiley is to blame.
00:24:14
I'm like constantly worried about Jackie dying.
00:24:18
Like since part one, the back and forth of is he going to die? Oh, he's going to be OK.
00:24:23
Oh, no, he meets a girlfriend. He's going to die.
00:24:25
And then be like, I think he's OK. Way saved him.
00:24:28
My gosh, the amount of stress I have for Jackie's mortality is it's too much.
00:24:35
He's gotten it pretty rough.
00:24:37
I mean, just from the get go of being used as a way to get way in.
00:24:40
Like he doesn't even know everything that's happened to him.
00:24:44
He's pretty naive as a triad member.
00:24:46
He is. But I think he's starting to realize that because it sounds like he's had enough and wants out of the life.
00:24:52
And they end their conversation with him saying he just he just wants to go for a walk.
00:24:58
Anything before the next morning. And he died.
00:25:02
I guess not.
00:25:06
The next morning, we get the text from Jackie, who asks him to come meet him as he has something to show way.
00:25:14
Way arrives to find Jackie dead and gets knocked out while trying to get him down.
00:25:20
The bait and switch this game pulls so quick.
00:25:23
You're worried he's dead. No, he's alive. He's just buried alive.
00:25:27
Two minutes later, if that he's dead.
00:25:30
The gasp, I guess you moved air with that gasp.
00:25:34
I was shocked. My goodness.
00:25:37
I finally thought he would be maybe OK.
00:25:40
But then three seconds later, he's dead.
00:25:44
Yeah. And it's not like a he's laying there peacefully.
00:25:47
It's like he's bloodied up and tortured.
00:25:50
And I feel terrible. He's strung up. His guts are spilling out.
00:25:53
He didn't deserve it. He didn't deserve it.
00:25:56
It was just to get to way.
00:25:58
And I hate the fact that they do that to to poor Jackie.
00:26:02
I was really hoping he would survive and just get with Jumei and Lee.
00:26:07
But we know no good things come to those who are in the triads like Winston and his girlfriend.
00:26:14
And I need to ask you, what are you?
00:26:17
What's your realization?
00:26:19
Because my first thought was like, oh, I guess way should have just let Jackie stay in prison.
00:26:25
Right. But then I thought, oh, my gosh, that's why Pantry so quickly agreed to let him out.
00:26:31
Is because he knew I'm just going to send somebody to kill him anyway.
00:26:36
Oh, do you think this is an FU from Pendrew or is this strictly a triad order murder?
00:26:43
I think OK, I think it's Pendrew wanting to get Jackie killed just to get to way.
00:26:50
And I think that's why Tang asked Jackie to flip on them so she could she can oversee and make sure that Jackie stays alive because she knows he's important to.
00:27:00
Way. And by having him flip, he would become an important like a undercover agent.
00:27:08
I don't know if you like a under not undercover.
00:27:11
You have some police protection. At least it would be.
00:27:14
Yeah, he would be a CIA. And so maybe Tang was looking out for him.
00:27:19
I could see it. I feel like this is definitely an FU from Pendrew, though, 100 percent.
00:27:25
It's really sad. Oh, no.
00:27:27
I would say I know poor Jackie, he could have survived, but honestly, he was always collateral.
00:27:37
He's just always been in the middle of all of this.
00:27:41
I mean, he's not 100 percent innocent, but he's innocent to the things that are happening around him to a point.
00:27:47
I think the fact that he feels guilty of killing someone goes to show he still has a lot of good goodness.
00:27:55
I don't know what's the right term, but he still had some kind of guilt, innocence in him.
00:28:00
And the fact that he wanted to leave just showed that he still has no malicious intent to continue to kill people, whether or not they deserve to die.
00:28:12
And I think that's what makes him a mother respecter.
00:28:16
Yeah, he's not cut out for it. And I mean, this is proof of that.
00:28:21
But I have to agree, Jackie, anything he did bad, I think, was just out of him being naive.
00:28:29
I don't think he really understood the world because every time he got an actual dose of it, he was really affected and really disturbed.
00:28:37
And in the end, he wanted to get out.
00:28:39
So, yeah, I think he's a mother respecter because especially with the baseline of they're all triad.
00:28:46
He's the only one who we see actually getting like sick of it.
00:28:51
Mother respecter. So long, Jackie.
00:28:55
All right. So some time later, Wei wakes up to a Mr. Tong, who seems to know that Wei's a cop, but Wei refuses to admit that he is.
00:29:06
So Tong starts to torture him until he passes out.
00:29:10
Kathy the Toes. Again.
00:29:14
At least it's a normal hammer and not a sledgehammer like poor Tachi Banna's piggies.
00:29:19
I was just about to say that this is really unnecessary.
00:29:23
And it reminds me of Tachi Banna, the torture, like come on, like slicing him up.
00:29:30
And then the drill in the kneecap.
00:29:33
I'm not one to be that squeamish, but the scene just made me so wanting to vomit, nauseous.
00:29:40
It happens really fast.
00:29:42
I wasn't expecting it. And it gets intense like out of nowhere.
00:29:45
It was really gross.
00:29:47
So Tong says that Jang will be disgraced and Lee will be head of the Sun on Ye.
00:29:53
After being passed out for a while, Wei comes to and manages to get out of his restraints and is sneaking through this under construction building, just taking people out.
00:30:04
And at one point he goes into a restroom.
00:30:07
And does that toilet seem enormous to you?
00:30:13
It is not proportional.
00:30:16
It's huge.
00:30:18
That toilet to the right of it.
00:30:20
What is it for?
00:30:22
Is it for a day?
00:30:23
I feel very uncultured right now.
00:30:25
So don't come at me.
00:30:27
But what is it for?
00:30:28
It's like we have a sink.
00:30:29
So I know you're not wash your hands.
00:30:31
Is it to wash your bum or is it a urinal and you just have water to rinse it down?
00:30:36
Like, I don't think there's two handles, which very much to me indicates hot and cold.
00:30:42
So I don't know.
00:30:43
Maybe you can give yourself a little invigorating bidet shot or a warmer one.
00:30:50
There's no indicator of the water going upwards.
00:30:53
It looks like the water is going to go downwards to rinse things out.
00:30:57
So is it used as a urinal?
00:30:59
But if you put handles, I feel like those who can't aim are just going to get those handles dirty.
00:31:06
Oh, God, which is all of them.
00:31:11
Anyway, we don't know what that thing is or why the toilet is so huge.
00:31:15
Like, went up to that guy's thighs.
00:31:16
Like, that's not normal.
00:31:20
Also, though, while he's going through beating everybody up, one of them screams, he's killing everybody.
00:31:27
It's just the most wild cry for help I've ever heard.
00:31:32
Yeah.
00:31:33
This is a wild scene, I will say, between crying for help like that while the enormous toilet thing.
00:31:41
See, so much going on.
00:31:43
Right.
00:31:44
And also, he kills someone by using a table saw, which was too much for me to handle.
00:31:51
Sure does.
00:31:52
It's a lot of blood.
00:31:53
He could throw someone into a pipe where the pipe just pretty much pierces through his entire body.
00:31:59
I feel like leaving jagged pipes like that, though, isn't up to code.
00:32:04
So that might be on them.
00:32:06
The violence in these last 30 minutes of the game is more than the entire game itself.
00:32:13
I also don't know how he's functioning at all after what happened to him.
00:32:16
Right?
00:32:17
We'll just ignore that.
00:32:18
How is he alive with his body being cut open, drilled, hammered?
00:32:22
His toes are intact again somehow.
00:32:27
Anyway, fighting his way out of the building, he eventually runs into Tong, who he beats.
00:32:33
Immediately after this, Lee texts Tong's phone and says we need to deal with Jang next.
00:32:39
Tong obviously has a Mary Poppins briefcase, because how the heck did he pull out such a long saw from this tiny little briefcase?
00:32:47
I know.
00:32:48
Is that a collapsible saw?
00:32:50
Do those even exist?
00:32:52
But I love how Wei takes advantage of it and continues to use the saw to kill people.
00:32:58
Oh, yeah.
00:32:59
I also like that that is what is in his briefcase.
00:33:02
He doesn't just have it on his belt or something.
00:33:05
He carries it around in a briefcase.
00:33:08
But yes, the way that Wei uses it to kill him, fantastic.
00:33:13
And then he changes his clothes but still has the machete.
00:33:18
How is he not bleeding through his clothes?
00:33:20
How is he?
00:33:22
A lot of things.
00:33:23
I know.
00:33:24
It doesn't make sense.
00:33:25
But anyway, on his way to confront Lee, Wei replays memories of his undercover experience so far.
00:33:32
I like this scene.
00:33:33
I feel like it's a very good, well, it's a long drive.
00:33:36
So it's a way to make that a little bit better for the player.
00:33:39
But it's a good way to sort of reflect on everything that's happened and sort of understand where Wei is at at this point.
00:33:47
I think it's a great way to summarize everything he's experienced.
00:33:53
He's also at the point where he's not quite triad, but he's not quite police officer.
00:33:59
So this is just him being in neutral space, analyzing all the facts that he has.
00:34:04
I feel like he's kind of in shock still.
00:34:07
I mean, the man just almost died.
00:34:10
Yeah.
00:34:11
I think he's in shock and he's tired and he knows he's on his way to end it.
00:34:17
And so maybe he's reflecting on everything.
00:34:20
But he arrives at Big Smiley's compound, but it contains a restaurant.
00:34:25
And it seems there are some patrons there that are not triad.
00:34:29
They're running out of the building.
00:34:30
And one of them screams, Mommy, Mommy, save me, Mommy.
00:34:34
Oh, it's very sad.
00:34:37
As I'm laughing.
00:34:39
Thanks.
00:34:43
You are very smart and efficient to take the car and just run everyone over.
00:34:49
I was like, Leah, like run those people over.
00:34:52
And you like, I don't need you to tell me because that's exactly what I'm going to do.
00:34:56
And you just start efficiently killing everyone.
00:35:00
Oh, yeah.
00:35:01
Started out with Tong's guys guarding his car.
00:35:04
I don't know what they were thinking trying to stop me.
00:35:07
They should know my driving habits.
00:35:09
Right.
00:35:10
But oh my gosh, it was so satisfying just clearing everybody out with that car.
00:35:15
And then you did like a tuck and roll and come rolling out of the car.
00:35:20
Ten out of ten execution right there.
00:35:23
I was trying to play as I felt Wei felt, which is unhinged.
00:35:28
Yeah.
00:35:30
Wei catches up to Big Smiley, who says, how does it feel, Pig, to know your boss sold you out?
00:35:37
No surprise there.
00:35:38
Not at all.
00:35:40
And then he continues to say, you fucked your way almost as bad as you fucked Jackie.
00:35:47
That's a line to unpack.
00:35:49
That's not fair.
00:35:50
That's not fair of Big Smiley to say that.
00:35:57
Is it?
00:35:58
I mean, it wasn't Wei's intention.
00:36:01
At least Big Smiley has a point.
00:36:04
You might be exaggerating a little bit, but he has a point.
00:36:08
He does.
00:36:09
But I feel like Wei had no choice but to use Jackie for the introduction to get him where he is.
00:36:16
The thing is, it's not really Wei keeping Jackie in it.
00:36:20
Jackie would have been involved either way.
00:36:23
He wouldn't have gone so far up, but he would still be involved.
00:36:27
And he probably would have died at Winston's wedding.
00:36:30
Jackie himself was a grown adult.
00:36:32
He could choose to leave any time he wanted, but he continued to stay here.
00:36:36
It may have been because of Wei.
00:36:39
I feel like at the same time, it depends on how guilty Wei wants to make himself feel.
00:36:45
Let me add this.
00:36:47
This might be what I think both of us are trying to touch a little bit.
00:36:52
This line is almost a confirmation of what we just thought of.
00:36:58
Penju ordered Jackie's death to get to Wei.
00:37:03
Maybe this is a confirmation of, yeah, it's your fault he's dead because we killed him to draw you out.
00:37:12
You have a point.
00:37:13
He could have died at any point, but ultimately the reason that he died was to get to Wei.
00:37:21
It's an indirect cause of death.
00:37:24
Wei partakes in.
00:37:27
After some struggle, Wei is able to kill Big Smiley.
00:37:31
How did you feel about the ice chipper, Kathy?
00:37:34
Good grief.
00:37:36
What a violent way of killing him.
00:37:38
I know he deserves to die, but holy cow.
00:37:42
In the aftermath, Raymond shows up and informs Wei that Penju is up for promotion.
00:37:46
He says,
00:37:47
Take it from me, Wei. Whatever you heard, it won't matter. The only voice they hear is Penju's.
00:37:52
So basically there's no hope in trying to turn him in.
00:37:55
So I think Raymond fully knows Penju's crooked and Wei's the good guy, maybe a little off the path.
00:38:03
Raymond still didn't say anything.
00:38:06
He didn't become a whistleblower.
00:38:09
I just feel like he didn't try enough.
00:38:12
I don't know.
00:38:13
I guess if he did try and didn't work out, him just turning a blind eye and not giving Wei a heads up.
00:38:21
Well, but he did warn Wei.
00:38:23
He tried to get him to come in as soon as he found out.
00:38:26
Oh, finding out that Penju's dirty?
00:38:29
Yeah.
00:38:30
Well, I was thinking more like early on, like tampering of evidence.
00:38:34
I guess that's my question.
00:38:36
I don't think he knew about that.
00:38:38
Or maybe it's the question.
00:38:39
I thought Raymond knew everything.
00:38:41
I don't think he does because I think this answers some of our questions about, well, why is Penju showing up this time when Raymond was the one on the phone?
00:38:50
Or where's Raymond been?
00:38:52
I think maybe that's the disconnect is how much did Raymond know?
00:38:58
Sometime later, Wei receives a thumb drive sent to him by Jang.
00:39:02
On the thumb drive is a video of Penju and Uncle Po in the hospital.
00:39:07
Seems like they had had a deal at some point, but now the deal is off because of Penju and he kills Uncle Po.
00:39:15
How are there no nurses to make sure that Penju isn't there alone with Uncle Po?
00:39:22
They all died in the shootout.
00:39:24
Oh, gosh.
00:39:25
No, I don't know.
00:39:26
How does he just...
00:39:27
Wander in.
00:39:28
How does he have so much time in there?
00:39:31
Yeah.
00:39:32
To just walk in, have a conversation, euthanize a guy.
00:39:37
As he's dying, Uncle Po's final words.
00:39:41
The only difference between you and me is...
00:39:48
I know what I am.
00:39:53
I'm curious how you interpret this sentence.
00:39:56
I interpret it as, they're both criminals.
00:40:00
But Uncle Po knows he's a criminal.
00:40:03
Whereas Penju is pretending like he's doing it for their greater good.
00:40:07
Which I think we'll see in the next scene too.
00:40:11
That's similar to how I understood that sentence.
00:40:14
He knows he's the head of Sananyi and he's a proud triad member.
00:40:20
Penju is playing both sides of the game.
00:40:22
He doesn't own it.
00:40:24
He uses other people and is a backstabber to move himself up, but he never really earned it.
00:40:31
And he can't really outright own who he is.
00:40:34
He continues to hide half his personality.
00:40:37
Throw him in jail.
00:40:38
Kill him.
00:40:39
Exactly.
00:40:40
Thankfully later on, Penju is in custody.
00:40:43
And Wei, wearing his badge, walks in and informs him that he'll be spending life in prison with all the men he put away.
00:40:50
You ready for life in prison?
00:40:52
What?
00:40:53
Because all your old buddies are going to be waiting for you.
00:40:57
I made sure they found out what you did to Uncle Po.
00:41:00
That's a fucking death sentence.
00:41:02
I know.
00:41:03
Karma.
00:41:04
What we were just talking about with Uncle Po's last words.
00:41:08
When Wei walks in the room, Penju says, I made Hong Kong better.
00:41:14
So it's like he actually thinks that he's doing good, which maybe, but that's like secondary.
00:41:21
And then by comparison, he says, you let them get to you.
00:41:25
I almost feel like Penju is saying that he made Hong Kong better, not truly believing that, that it's all for self-interest.
00:41:35
He doesn't know who he is because it's his goal to make Hong Kong better or his goal to make himself more powerful.
00:41:42
So it's making himself feel better that he's making Hong Kong a better place when he's enabling Big Smiley,
00:41:49
who was only going to make things worse.
00:41:52
Moving on, Wei meets with Inspector Tang and he thanks her for helping him to stay sane with all the police work he did.
00:42:00
Basically, it stopped him from going full triad.
00:42:05
And then skipping ahead in this short conversation, Tang asks Wei what he's going to do next.
00:42:11
And he says, I don't know, Hong Kong kind of feels like home and walks away.
00:42:17
Just after he's out of earshot, Tang says, yeah, but which Hong Kong?
00:42:24
That's my favorite line in the whole game.
00:42:27
Do you think she means like Hong Kong from a triad's perspective or like Hong Kong from a police perspective?
00:42:33
I do.
00:42:34
Do you think that's what she means, like two sides of Hong Kong?
00:42:37
Yeah, I think she means like, what are you going to be Wei?
00:42:40
Because she knows that he was really in both of them.
00:42:45
It's great.
00:42:46
I have something else I want to add to it, but we need to talk about Sister Jiang first.
00:42:51
Yeah, so the final, final scene in this game, Jiang and I think Pockmark are watching Wei from the limo.
00:43:00
They're discussing what to do about Wei, and she says that he proves himself to be loyal to her in his own way.
00:43:07
And so she decides to leave him be.
00:43:09
Pockmark says, yes, Aunt Jiang.
00:43:12
So this is pretty clear indication.
00:43:14
She's the new chairman.
00:43:16
She's the new Uncle Po.
00:43:17
And I think her leadership may be the third type of Hong Kong.
00:43:22
You have Hong Kong from the police perspective.
00:43:25
You have Hong Kong from Wei's perspective as a triad member.
00:43:30
But you can also have Hong Kong as Wei still helping the Sun on Yi slash Aunt Jiang, but making it a better place.
00:43:40
Well, it's also just an interesting, I don't know, question, I guess, because Wei's assignment that he himself says is to take down the Sun on Yi.
00:43:50
But now Jiang's running the Sun on Yi.
00:43:53
So did he really?
00:43:54
I mean, I know we like Jiang.
00:43:56
He likes Jiang.
00:43:57
But did he really accomplish his mission?
00:44:00
Can you even?
00:44:01
No, because another one's just going to pop up.
00:44:03
You choose the lesser of two evils.
00:44:06
I like this ending.
00:44:08
I like Pendrew in jail.
00:44:10
I like Wei free.
00:44:13
And I like Jiang as the chairman.
